Am I missing something here? Instead of giving us more options of existing race/class combos, the Alliance are getting a 3rd variation of a Dwarf and the Horde are getting a historically, Alliance race?
Help me make sense of it.

Earthen dwarves existed long before the Alliance, isolated deep underground. The rebellious group going with Horde, the edict followers with Alliance.
Can I just give you a little heads up?
Linking youtube videos with masked swearing in the title that everyone can see counts as masked swearing being typed.
Might want to remove that.
No, no. Let him learn the hard way.
I don’t care about them, they could just be a customisation option. I was hoping for something more fun and unique, but whatever, the more the merrier anyway
For me, there are way too many races already. I would prefer more customization, as OP stated.
And ideally, joining up existing races into 1.
For me, its like going for a supermarket and wanting to buy “shampoo”. There are just too many options, all look different but do the same… Too confusing…
That sort of sentiment.
But its just my opinion.
you’re assuming I’m not aware.
I mean, are you (self)aware?
the worse part is i’m sure there’s gonna be countless threads in the upcoming years asking for more customization options too, because they won’t do that with launch for whatever reason.
Loads of things exist in WoW, doesn’t mean they should be added as playable races. I’ve seen countless threads about more race/class combos for existing options but Blizzard thinks offering a new skin for a model that is already used twice by the Alliance is the right move. I also wonder how many Horde players will choose this race, I’d be surprised if there is more than one, lets face it, there’s always that one person.
I feel all allied races should have been customizations on the races themselves.
To toggle Nightborne or Night Elf when creating your character.
That should have been the play.
I doubt it would cause issues with racials because classes also toggle a certain code that your race is x class.
So racials shouldnt be an issue either.
Allied Races feel more like a bloat than actual improved/new gameplay or feature or whatever we can call it.
The racials are fun, and some armor sets look nice
But after creating my allied dwarf race, a few hours in it was just a dwarf to me. I never really notice the big difference other than the racial. (Since i barely ever touch the barbershop after creating my character)
And for The War Within, i do think we could have done without a new Allied race. No matter this “choice” might fit the story of the expansion.
I don’t think so, they’ll be more like mechagnomes - another race barely anyone cares about; maybe not quite as ridiculed, but still. It’s a shame, they should focus more on quality instead of quantity in many regards in-game.
ofc I’m not, none of us are we all biased in one way or another.
People ask for forest trolls, ogres, mok’nathal, and a bunch of other popular options, for years. More customization options for existing races.
Blizz adds stone dwarves, the third and most boring iteration of dwarves that no one asked for. Plus, they put them in the Horde too.
A well-known story.
could been worse, they could have given you mecha Vulpera
Or another elves
Tall, nine tailed vulpera from Pandaria mayhaps?
The jinyu are a good example they potentially could exist via the exposure of the waters there
That’s coming the expansion after TWW, don’t worry
I hope in the first patch they add Stone Short Elves in lore known as Pebbledorei and the second big patch perhaps Mech Kul Tiran.
With all the race optiona we could have gotten(Ogre, Jinyu, Hozen, Sethrakk, Murloc, Naga), why do they always go for the worst ones. Who decides these things?
Probbably a tank worth of manatees
