Tyrande...I am surprised

So I was reading random lore parts within wow wiki and I came across the below event that supposedly happened in the original warcraft III. I believe in the night elves campaign: Daughters of the moon. This is a copy/paste from it:

“Tyrande and her small group ran into a fight between human footmen and ghouls. Tyrande observed that the humans were also enemies of the undead, however, she refused the idea of allying with them. The night elves hid from the battle until most of the humans and undead were slain. They then finished off the survivors. Tyrande also salvaged a magical Ring of Superiority from the humans’ camp”

Am not very deep into the lore but come on… she killed the remaining survivors…although it doesnt state clearly whether the remaining survivors were humans or undead…but…man am speechless and I don’t even know what to think of this act…

What are your thoughts folks?

Xenophobics doing xenophobic thing, who would have guessed?

WC3 Nelves and WoW Nelves are honestly two different races.

Must have been Tyrande from the future, getting payback for “A little patience”.

Can we have this Tyrande back?

Yes this happens in Warcraft III, the human survivors of Lordaeron under Jaina arrive in Kalimdor and are trying to find a place to settle (this is before they establish Theramore). Jaina is being led around by the prophet to Stonetalon peak then they get caught up helping the orcs free Grom from Mannoroth in Ashenvale - which is why the night elves encounter them there fighting the legion and undead.

Tyrande refuses to ally with anyone until the last mission if I remember right, when they are forced to ally to defend the world tree. She then finally says something like “perhaps I misjudged you outlanders” when she sees the humans ready to fight and they hold the first line of defence against the demon/scourge army marching up Hyjal. The night elves were much more defensive of their homeland in Warcraft III. Even Grom was impressed by their fighting spirit.

She also only changes her mind because Malfurion insists that they need to band together. Throughout Wc3 Reign of chaos Tyrande is somewhat hostile to strangers. This changes of course after the Horde, Jainas Humans and the Nightelves band together to defeat Archimonde because later in Frozen Throne she is the one that wants to actively help Kael’thas and the surviving Blood Elfs.

But I am not sure how much of this is retconned today because Tyrande was surprised in Wc3 to see Humans and Orcs for the first time. In reality she should already know them because she fought alongside Broxigar (green Orc), Rhonin (Human) and Krasus 10000 Years ago so hard to say whats true and what isn´t anymore.
Another thing to mention is that in the Campaign the Human and Orc Survivors actively attack Tyrande and her forces. Of course in the middle of battle fighting for your life against an unknown foe it is easy to just strike at everything and not wait to talk it out.

In very first mission, you have a task to build 5 archers. After you done, 2 human footman and 2 dwarf gunners attack your base trying to kill all of you…

Tell my why Tyrande should’t kill those soldiers in a second mission?

Anyway, its a game mechanic. When I was doing that mission I have just passed them. I didn’t know that there is a ring drop.
So for my Lore, that didn’t happened…

Cough false cough

The first mission is Tyrande finding the humans and orcs in Ashenvale.

And she decides to kill them believing they’d be a threat.

As for the OP.

You can find all the cutscenes on youtube from the campaign, it’ll give you the context you need.

Also, look at how valiantly the humans and orcs faced the undead and the demons, while Tyrande and her elves ran away in fear :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

And to think, Tyrande continued this anti-human-orc mindset even after seeing that they too were fighting the undead and the demons.

Even dissuading Malfurion from teaming up with them much earlier… because Tyrande is clearly not the best to lead.

As Fandral Staghelm always said in vanilla.

‘Tyrande is unfit to lead our people.’

And his quote directly to her, I believe in HOTS?

Fandral Staghelm to Tyrande: “You would lead our people to ruin!”

Which is very much true, and was made obvious in both Warcraft 3 Reign of Chaos and Warcraft 3 Frozen Throne.

Lucky for her, she had Malfurion and Illidan to save her bubbly bottom.

I mean despite the character, who wouldn’t save Tyrandes bubbly button :stuck_out_tongue:

Non-simps!

That’s not a fair move! All I can counter with is a joke for which I get banned for sure!

:sunglasses:

Tyrande and diplomatic malpractice.

A more iconic duo is hard to find.

Obviously referring to the undead.

This how the Kaldorei should behave from the start
But alas… we somehow went from that to the Kaldorei siting on Stormwind’s streets, sobbing
Let’s take a moment of silence for the Kaldorei almost we had

…and never would have had in the Alliance. Or Horde. So… probably never playable.

I don’t know why people keep saying “Tyrande is such a failure at diplomacy”…when she’s not attempting diplomacy.

She’s engaging in warfare.

It’s like saying that Velen is the worst military mind on Azeroth because he retreated from the Legion for the majority of his race’s history. We don’t have the chance to see Velen’s military skill in an exodus, likewise we can’t garner Tyrande’s diplomatic capacity in an ambush.

What the heck, guys?

Not false, by the way. If you don’t attack the Alliance and Horde, they will start sending riflemen, grunts, footmen and headhunters after your base and they won’t stop attacking until all of your units are dead.

Kind of a moot gibe considering you’re implying the Elves fear the demonic army they were instrumental in banishing twice.

This is very chuckle-worthy, let me illustrate:

Fandral seemed to regard his collegues in Moonglade in low regards, calling them fools.

Fandral gathered many druids to Teldrassil, unfolding a master plan to heal the giant tree…It was discovered that rather than purifying the tree, Fandral was, in fact, responsible for its being corrupted in the first place. He was the one responsible for grafting a branch of the Nightmare Lord onto Teldrassil and he was the one who led the Cenarion Circle in feeding their powers to the World Tree, thus feeding its corruption. Fandral however, was no longer in control of his own actions. Rather, he was an unwitting pawn and puppet of the father of all satyrs, Xavius.

Fandral also ordered the elimination of trolls from the Alterac Valley because of their claims that night elves evolved from trolls.

Truly the most reliable judge of character!

Yep she did. But again, first task of the mission is to build a base. And as soon as you finished, Alliance troops attack on your base. Horde troops after that.
First blood is on their side.

So are you telling me that it is canon that Tyrande had to stand by and wait for Night Elves to be birthed in the Ancient of War?

You really gotta ask yourself a few questions here.

What is actually sensible to consider to be a part of lore?
Is this just a game mechanic or is it actually lore?

You know?

Cutscenes are obviously lore.
On map gameplay where everything can vary depending entirely on the player? Eh, not so much.

Are you literally telling me that the gameplay mechanic is telling a far more true story than the cutscene?!

I’ll repeat what you write

In regards to Tyrande, he was.
