UI blurry on external monitor

Hi!

I’ve been playing WoW from a 16 inch Mac book pro (10 core 16 core, 16 gb) and recently I purchased a 24 inch full HD monitor (1920 x 1080).

The issue is that when i connect to the external monitor the UI becomes rather blurry for some reason. Game itself looks perfectly fine but the ui thing bothers me a lot.

I’ve tried playing around with the settings, even did a reset of In-game options but nothing seems to work. Keep in mind I do not use any sort of add-ons and this is WoW’s default UI.

Is there any work-around for this? Should i return the monitor and get a QHD one instead? Would that solve the issue?

TIA

Disclaimer: I don’t use Mac and have very little experience with them.

Is the text blurry outside of WoW when using the external monitor?

I did quick search around and found references of external monitors using different color space (YPbPR) than most monitors (RGB). Many monitors have settings to change the input color format, so check your monitor display menu for any color, color space or similar setting. In my old ancient monitor it is found Menu → Color Settings - Input Color Format but that obviously varies by whatever monitor you have.

There were different alternative workarounds suggested but I don’t know if they are reliable so I’d check the color settings first.

It’s not really the text that is the problem, that looks fine, but the resolution of the entire UI design. The spell icons are blurrier, the bag icons are blurrier, the collections menu is blurrier, all the armour sets and pieces look terrible in that menu but they look perfectly fine in game equipped on the character.

Have you tried changing the scaling on your UI in the graphic settings?

I have but to no avail, it made no difference.

Are you playing the game at a lower resolution than the monitor is set to?

I had a similar thing happen on my old PC when the Windows desktop resolution was set to 4k and the game resolution was set to 2k.

If that is the case for you just turn the resolution down in Windows to match the game resolution and it should look ok again.

Monitor is 1920 x 1080 and game is set at 100% render scale. I even tried scaling it to 125%, 150% and result is still the same, only the actual game graphics sharpen a little. Maybe Macs don’t scale well on full HD monitors I don’t know. But I haven’t noticed any other quirks like that outside of WoW which is why I thought it might be from the game itself.

I guess i’ll just return this monitor and get a QHD one instead, hopefully that fixes it. It’s just so hard to find 24 inch monitors that are QHD AND have a high refresh rate. Will probably have to settle for 75hz. Oh well

Render scale is different than the screen resolution. Render scale just determined on which resolution stuff is rendered but then it is scaled to the actual resolution. The resolution setting should be above render scale,if it’s disabled or doesn’t affect anything you probably need to check MacOS’ settings for the external monitor. Least in Windows the resolution doesn’t seem to change anything when using Full screen (Windowed).

Does other software and MacOS itself work fine in the external monitor?

In mac settings for the monitor the largest rezolution I can pick is 1920 x1080. The other options available are smaller. Other than that I don’t know what else to check.

Everything else seems to be working fine on the monitor.

I know in Window there is conflicts with settings if the standard desktop setting differ from game settings. Try matching them up.
