So I just got the update and this is what I logged into. I disabled all addons. If I go to graphics settings and reset it, everything looks good but then I close it and it pops back to this messed up scaling again.
Ui scaling is disabled. The difference seems to be the render scale. As long as I keep it open, the render scale 100% = current resolution whereas if I close it, it seems to change that baseline and in turn rescales everything.
Like dude, for real? What is this? Just disable this render scaling crap.
Anyone has any idea how to solve this? Any help appreciated.
Adjusting the render scale and reoslution does nothing - something just changes the baseline.
Edit: Maybe windowed fixed it hmm. (Probably the intern at it again eh)
Your is extreme, but I have an feeling that it’s generally inconsistent.
WoW UI is designed around 8pt fonts, it’s gotten really tiny over the years - whenever I exit to Windows (100%), I feel like it’s
large.
No, it’s just WoW being like this.
Anyway. Much of the new UI is designed to be fair sized with the default 65%, in return it looks like yours at 100% - lots of huge stuff.
I feel like it should be done from scratch, with a consistent style. The UI from 2004 is just simply better. (Lots of nice ideas in this one.)
(By the way, it does respect Windows scaling as well, unless it uses units, because it looks fine in 4K. But the default is still too small.)
My UI didn’t go bonkers like yours. I recall that you can place every item anchored in several ways - left, right, centre, justified, same vertically. Could be that your action bars were anchored left and with the resize they got shifted.
I have similar issue ;/
Today after I log in, my UI looks like from times when 1024x768 was a standard, even Warband screen doesn’t display all 4 characters, because right one is hidden by character select window.
In game UI elements, like minimap, quest list overlaps each other, chat window is out of the screen.
I tied to reset graphics settings and change resolution options but it doesn’t help.
Looks like UI scaling is broken above 1440p.
When I go above 1440p in settings - the UI gets much bigger (like it would downgrade resolution to like 1024x768). Normally I used to play on 3840 Ă— 2160 resolution.
Also when I set anything above 1440p save and re-log, the in game setting shows 1440p resolution instead of 2160p (or any above 1440p), while Config.wtf in WTF folder says SET GxFullscreenResolution "3840x2160"
Previously it was all ok (except big menu which shows after pressing esc, which wasn’t big deal for me), but today all UI scaling is broken ;/
I was on a mac with a 4k external screen. I think it wqs a bug and simply using windowed mode fixed it. I still have to max the window everytime but at least it works.
I made some more investigation into this, and it looks like it might be connected with MacOS UI scaling from MacOS display settings.
I have 4K external display with UI scaling set to look like 1440p (in mac display settings) and in this case WOW UI scaling and rendering gets broken above 1440p in full screen mode (windowed mode looks ok).
When I set UI scaling to look like 4K (in MacOS display settings), then WOW and its UI starts to look good again in full window mode.
I assume wow client in full window mode, after the pre-patch takes this macOS UI scaling value as display resolution instead of real display resolution (which is problematic ;/)
Yeah, that would make sense and seems to be a simple bug. I don’t really wanted to play around with it because there’s also a weird mac bug that sometimes prevents external screens from running on 60hz and then the mouse lags. It’s very random. Never touch a running system. So can’t really check if on my side because I don’t wanna get into the random macOS bug again.
Seems this might be my problem too. Playing on IMAC with built in screen. Something weird happened today when I logged on. Bushes were outlined in blue and I had blue squares all over the screen. AND the scaling is off the grid!. ALL critters , NPC etc has ENORMOUS nameplates - HUGE. Bigger than me (and I am a gnome). And I cannot get rid of them. I cannot change the scaling. All other text is small - quest log - I need to lean close to the screen to read properly. Chat text I can change to fontsize 16. (used to be 10/12 before). Tried windowed mood - and the blue patches disappeared but the scaling is so weird. PLEASE FIX: (Seems like Blizzard doesn’t like us Macusers…)
But the problem is that if you scale things down, other things you hadn’t scaled down in the past will suddenly become too tiny to read. I really wish Blizzard would give us an update on whether they’re working on this or not, because rn the game is lowkey making me nauseaus.
What Kipleton said. Scaling things down does not help. And problem is also that even though I disabled nameplates for NPCs etc - they still run around with HUGE nameplates. I have baby Violetwing Stagbeetles so small you cannot see them but their nameplates are bigger than me…
Set resolution of your system (Settings → Display) to the same as you do ingame and also make sure the scaling (ingame) doesn’t up or down scale that resultion + disable UI scaling.
The problem is that things aren’t scaling the way they used to, so I’m unable to keep certain aspects (like the chat) at one scale without drastically changing everything else. I also think the scaling is tied to the terrible, terrible zooming and scrolling now, because I am suddenly only able to zoom either all the way in, or all the way out.
But this is also a major issue on MacBooks specifically, which wasn’t an issue before TWW.
If this topic has been solved ( according to the pop up ) why is it still an issue?.. UI still automatically rescales when relogging and game menu still takes up half the screen.
I dont see any solution provided by blizzzard?..
Put blueposts or something with bug updates, driving me crazy not seeing any feedback/updates on these kinds of things.
Agreed, this should not have been marked as solved.
The current “solution” does not address the issue most people here have actually brought up.
The scaling is very inconsistent. Things that used to be the same scale aren’t anymore, and if something is too small, making it bigger makes other things way too big. This is not tied to custom UI layout from Edit Mode either.
Some things don’t even adjust to the game’s window anymore, and this is not an issue tied to my settings.
It’s possible that this is tied to the scrolling/zooming issues as well.
Annotations on the world map, mini map, in the spell book etc. don’t even fit on the screen. Tried every setting, but nothing changes this.
The initial loading screen is the only thing that looks completely accurate.
Everything on screen is shoved down a tiny bit, no matter how I adjust notch mode or customize my UI.
Some addon UI is also much bigger than it used to be. (And no, turning off addon doesn’t fix anything)
The bags (3 36-slots, 2 34-slots) don’t even fit on the screen, with the very top of them leaving the screen. Not a big issue, but bad to look at.
The appearence tab is kinda low… Which bothers me for some reason.
The initial login screen, in-game, and character select/creation screen all seem to have different settings… And if I return to the log-in screen after logging in, that’s different from the initial log-in screen as well. What.
Again, a lot of this might sound like non-issues, but it is extremely annoying when it was flawless in Dragonflight, and some of these issues lowkey make me nauseous.
I noticed this was an issue on beta as well, so I wrote down every single setting I had in Dragonflight, and none of them have changed in the pre-patch. So this isn’t something I’ve caused.
Edit: One last but not that important note; does the game use a new font for UI stuff?
Solve my issue, that’s why it was marked. Didn’t expect this will get any more attention. It’s also probably several issues leading to the same outcome.
