Unable to dismount with keybinding

I have tried reparing the game, and I have even tried to make a clean install, but it doesn’t change anything.

I have set my middle mousebutton, under keybindings, to dismount. On some of my characters it works, on some it doesn’t, and the game just says “You can’t do that right now.”

As I said, this is the case without addons installed, on a totally clean install. And it should not have anything to do with overlay programs, since it works on some characters, and not others. Even after the reinstall, it is the same characters it works for, and doesn’t work for. If it were some overlay program problem, it should affect all chars equally.

Esc - Keybindings - Miscellaneous - Dismount. Check it out if it really is there.

By the way, I have never had dismount binded anywhere. You will dismount anyways when you start using a skill, no need for a separate button.

Yeah, keybinds are stored server-side so a fresh install doesn’t necessarily have default binds.

I wouldn’t post it in here, if I hadn’t checked it several times. I have checked it repeatedly over most of a year. Please don’t treat people as noobs. I know you are trying to help, but when I write “I have set…” Then I have set it… Anything else wouldn’t make sense.

Dismount might not make sense to you, but to me, when gathering mines or engaging mobs from the air, it makes my playstyle more fluid. I can drop from the sky, and mine the second I hit the ground. I can start casting my spells, before hitting the ground. Even if it is not something that you use yourself, please accept and respect that others might use it, and see this as a problem. Your attempt to make this issue sound as it is nothing, is extremely unhelpful

I would never treat anyone as “noob” (and I prefer newcomer, noob is not very nice word tbh). I would never be rude towards anyone as WoW Guide.

In case dismount button does not work even you have bound it correctly, you will also dismount just by pressing mount button again. It works exactly same way. Just tap it and all gucci. Try it out.

We’re just trying to help debug the problem.

The fact that it’s not working on certain specific characters and not others, without addons present, means it’s likely one of three things:

  1. Keybind issue
  2. CVar issue, though given this specific case I don’t think that’s likely
  3. You’re using mount macros on certain characters without realizing it.

So for me Step 1 would be to ensure that both a working and busted character are both using the Global Keybinds rather than character specific ones. I would also reset them to default, but that’s me. This eliminates any keybind discrepancies between setups.

Step 2 would be to remove my mounts from my bars then place the same mount, from the collections interface, on both a known working and not working character and test for differences in behavior. This will eliminate any potential macro issues/quirks with individual mounts.

Step 3 would be to install AdvancedInterfaceOptions, go to its CVar browser and compare CVars between characters. I’d start with ones that have “mount” in them.

WoW support has added it as a bug. But it might never really get fixed. That is why I post it in here - someone might have had the same problem, and found a workaround.

I’ve tried resetting the keybinds as well, so if it is serverside, then the issue might be with the serverside software, or it might be something to do with the class of the characters. That’s the thing I’m trying to figure out right now…
