Technically no. Zombies typically are your brainless shamblers from things like ‘The Walking Dead’ or the older George A Romero films, they have no higher thought processes whatsoever, and are not even capable of using tools.
‘Undead’ however (Whilst the term is funny, because something that is ‘un’ dead is surely therefore -not- dead, and so alive) covers a vast amount of creatures from myth and legend. Don’t even get me started on Banshees, which were sometimes ‘Living’ as in Fae creatures, and sometimes were Undead, but they were generally Elven in appearance so who knows -why- they changed the model to take away the pointy ears recently. Vampires are Undead, yet Vampires are generally just dead -people- they’re not decaying or rotting generally, indeed there is a strong sexual undertone to Vampires, something that would not work if they were putrefying. Dracula is (when he has fed) an erotic individual, Lestat is highly sexualised, as are the Lost Boys (The Film, not Peter Pan’s buddies) and in more recent times Edward Cullen from Twilight (A curse upon thee for making me reference those movies) They’re all Undead, they are also found ‘sexy’ or at least ‘appealing’ by the Living, whereas Zombies are not. (Although if you check out the comedy ‘Warm Bodies’ it does show a human/Zombie romance. Its actually a funny film, and not as cheesy as it sounds).
They’re all still Undead however.
So Undead=/=Rotting corpse. Undead does however = Someone who died and rose from the dead.
So yeah, technically the Forsaken Undead are -not- Zombies, and in fact as we see in Tirisfal Glades they regard Zombies as just as much a threat, as a living person would. As a starting Forsaken you are sent to put down Zombies, just as much as you are sent to put down living Scarlets.
Forsaken are most definitely Undead, but they are not -actually- zombies.
You can be a corpse without looking like a dogs chewtoy you know…
And they’re not removing bones or the “uglier faces”, they’re still there for you to pick, which is fine. But there are others who like to play undeads without broken transmogs or visible bones, and that is fine too.
It is easy for them to copy paste human models (I e make them have more living look.)
Imagine what a difficult task to maintain their uniqueness. I mean it requires all those creativity, actual talent and innovation… Wewsh who needs all of that? Just cover bones easier for them.
I really appreciate the work of the team who ever did the original forsaken in wow classic you sirs/madams deserve all the best in your life.
