Honestly I wish people would stop saying that there is no longer any reason to undercut. The reason to undercut now is to create a new, shorter queue with you at the front of it. People are less likely to post in that queue and get ahead of you because it’s cheaper than what they perceive as market value. In other words, if you want a fast sale and don’t care about the price, it still makes sense to undercut. EDIT: “don’t care about the price > don’t care about maxing out the profit”

Also, just because you are at the front of the ‘queue’ doesn’t guarantee a sale like people think it does. When 100 units are listed after yours and demand is only 10 units then you are selling nothing.

undercutting doesn’t guarantee that either
 if others post after you, they will be sold first and you sell nothing

all you achieved then is, to lower the price

Only if others follow your example. If an item is on the market for 100g and one guy lists a single unit for 90g, I’m not gonna undercut him or list my items for 90g to compete with him. I’m gonna list mine for 100g and let him sell his single underpriced unit and get the full price for mine. Price isn’t lowered. If the price does start going down, it’s because 100g is too much and the market will eventually settle on a suitable price.

well, since a lot of addons, automatically “undercut” (for example TSM) most players will put stuff at 90g into the AH then, most players do not look at how many items are at the lower price, they just undercut

of course if you put something at 50g instead, all the snipers will buy that and put it in for double the price

I used to use one of the auction addons which would automatically undercut, but I would always look at the competition before clicking the button. If it’s like 2000 units - 50g, 20 units - 25g then I’ll just click in the 50g units and undercut those.

I would buy the 25g units, and put them in for 50g
 making 25g profit per unit
