Undercutting in the Auction house

It is abit silly that Blizzard would warn people with an ingame pop up that " DO NOT UNDERCUT".

You see. The whole point of undercutting is to get your goods sold for a cheaper price. You drive the price down. Competition starts.

I undercut with this new system and I am going to keep doing so. Since the problem with just listing your price the same as everyone elses is THAT: someone is going to have to sell theirs before yours anyway or vicaversa when the price is the same.

You are right, but a part of me wishes for the AH to have some sort of limitation on how much something can go down.

I have seen absolute clowns cutting prices in half, or even lower, just to sell fast.

When cutting for let’s say around 25% it kinda cheapens too much, but damn…

the thing is, it isn’t necessary anymore because if you put your stuff into the AH at the same price, yours WILL show up first and will be sold first, they are always on the top that is, until someone posts after you, so you get more gold while selling your stuff

This is wrong in so many levels.

You do not undercut to sell cheaper, you do so because you want to sell yours faster. Or somehow fears that someone will sell theirs instead but that’s irrational.

Outside of the “sell faster” argument this makes no sense whatsoever.

You’ll only sell as long as you’re the last item left listed on the ah. Should anyone come after you, whether you undercut or not, they’ll sell first.

You either undercut so hard that you sell at loss and discourage your competition, or undercut by a small amount which served no purpose other than lowering the value of your items and satisfy your anxious brain as your competition will relist theirs at your now undercuted price.

In both situation you have no incentive to undercut.

The worst part is when you see people undercut each other for slow moving items like trillium bars until they halved the value of the item, just because they can’t rest until theirs is the cheapest… You would’ve gotten the sales in the same order anyway, why the rush ?

You only get the warning a few times and then it goes away forever.

If I want to cut price in half, why is it anyone elses matter?

Just buy the item and relist it, if you care? You are going to make profit.

I will be getting rid of trash and not having to come to AH again to relist it incase it doesnt sell.shrug

The new AH makes undercutting viable and easy for everyone. The early warning is probably more to remind players they do not need to undercut, the system does it for you and will continue to recommend players do so even if you heavily mark prices under the guideline.

You only really hurt sellers who are impaitent and also potentially cut your own profits much more than needed, if I ever decide to undercut by such large margins I find it good to accompany with some /2 advertising to make the sales much faster, people love bargains!

Some prices are insane. So I undercut with a lot if I feel like it. :sunglasses:

If I see what I want on the AH and the price is too high then I don’t buy it, I’ll wait for someone to undercut the existing prices until it reaches a price I’m prepared to pay.

I’ll put stuff on the AH at a price I feel is fair and reasonable, if that means undercutting by a few million % then tough, I’ll still list the item(s).

It strikes me that all the people whining about the AH are those that are selling, their little money tree has been pruned and now that we have a much fairer and useful AH they’re getting all salty.

If you’re gonna undercut that’s fine but don’t hide behind some curtain of benevolence claiming you’re doing it for the sake of competition
You just want to quickly sell your items

For most items in WoW there is very little supply elasticity, which means that there’s very little reponse from buyers to changes in prices.

It’s possible to sell an enchant for 500 g on a day and 1 k on the next day.

Let’s take a rare transmog for example: it doesn’t matter if it’s 300k or 400k - if people are looking for this specifically they will buy it. It’s not like the buyer will say “nah 400k is too much” and someone else will impulsively buy it without specifically looking for it at 300k.

Don’t ruin prices, friends. If you want to undercut, then please undercut hard enough for me to just flip it

If you don’t like it, buy it and relist it.

I go “Nah, that’s too much”. Been looking for Cloaked Hood for a few weeks now. It’s around now and then, but the price is always ludicrous.

Did you try to contact the seller via ingame-mail and ask them for a discount?

I don’t usually look at the seller, but it’s not been the same ones iirc. Worth a shot I guess, but not holding my breath with people named Goldmaker and such. Point was though, there are indeed people out there who set arbitrary limits for what they’ll spend on an item, it’s doubtful I’m the only one.

I love undercutting greedy gits. In fact im off to do it now

Some people don’t feel good about ripping people off. It’s called a conscience.

Real talk here: Spending time to earn a lot less money than doing gold world quest is retarded. People cutting prices to that level, are by extension, retarded.
