Underpin fight is awful

I get that fun is subjective but I can’t help but feel that if anyone has anything positive to say about this car crash of a fight its because they are being held against their will.

The concept is unfun. Kicking bombs that are impossible to click on sometimes. Bind the “interact with mouseover” key and it merely becomes ‘bad’.

Bugs:

  1. Kicking bombs in certain parts of the arena makes them travel 2 yards because reasons.
  2. Brann can frost trap bombs so you can punt them to your hearts content but they won’t move.
  3. Collision detection on bombs is dodgy. They can land pixels away from a minion and not detonate.

QoL stuff that makes it a garbage fight (apart from the concept).

  1. The bosses crush means he can just randomly jump off to (almost) anywhere. Positioning is important and to have it jump off - not onto Brann - a millisecond before adds spawn is bad design.
  2. Spell queueing is just weird. I’ve had the boss spawn minions and then jump into the spawning alcove and shield instantly. Now I’m on a timer to break a shield in a constrained area while 5 minions shoot death lazer lines on the ground and bombs rain from the sky. Terrific.

I’ve not done it yet, only went once and found it immensely frustrating trying to kick bombs. I will go back at some point and try with the interact key.

It’s a very frustrating fight to say the least. The cronies spawns are sometimes a bit nutty (3 nearby, 2 out in Africa). you find yourself racing across the whole zone only to hear: “TIME OUT TIME OUT”, then racing all the way back with far side cronies still popping off.

Also, the laser lines remaining for a while after the cronies are dead is quite off putting. Same with the swirlies for the bombs.

It’s too RNG. On the pull I manged to down him I was lucky with both cronie spawns and the boss shield timing. Quite a few pulls i died in the way you described, just too much overlapping nonsense going on at once.

Did ? last night and it was unfun. Trick for me was to keybind the interact action and just focus boss once he’s down to 20%.

I gave ?.? a quick look and noped my way out. Maybe I’ll give it a proper go when I’m close to Delve geared max 665 ilvl.

Agree, it is much worse than Zekvir, I cba doing it on a dps so I facerolled it as brewmaster on second attempt. Insane how easy it is as tank. As dps it is a total bugged rng mess.

As someone who took it down around 100 pulls.

Yep, the fight full of rng mongo bullcrap (or bug). Some bombs flying and aoe range lower than others (also tank roles need only 2 bombs vs 3 as dps, seems fair lol). Adds sometimes whatever reason spawn 100 yard away eachother. Brann sometimes forget to use his abilities, also staying 100 yard away from you and boss jump on him. Legit sometimes i did nothing during half the fight because i waited the boss to reach me.

My tip if you have bad luck with shield, to not push boss below 80% before u clean the 2nd addwave. Whit that, i had a better spell que with shield come after adds + 15 seconds avg.

Zekvir felt like a much more honest mechanics test outside of crit RNG sometimes screwing you over.

Boss standing on top of bombs is annoying

It’s heavily RNG based, but it is extremely doable even with 640ilevel. I bound my interact to mouse #1 so it made it a lot less painful. Don’t recommend trying to click them lol.

Also the mechano raptors for Brann are amazing for the fight.

Why I dont do these fights. Did also not do other in season 1

my best attempt at 630 ilvl was 23% hp on tier ??
im planning to revisit the fight at 658 ilvl , im currently at 652

best tactics is to always be moving in a circle around the arena, and use interact key keybind for bombs

ill most likely kill it through gear upgrades at this point.

Defeated in my case by what 652 ilvl Blood DK. And honestly, the interact key makes this fight much easier. Sure, sometimes it’s frustrating that he jumps to completely random places, where positioning him is very important, because it makes it easier for us to spawn adds where we want. Towards the end of the fight he jumped so senselessly that it summoned my adds on the other side of the map and by the end I practically had 6 of them on the map and I was just avoiding the lines as much as I could, trying to kill him. The fight itself is much more forgiving, because there aren’t as many mechanics that kill you with a shot. At least as a tank. Definitely a more fun fight for me than Zekvir.

made a post about it couple a weeks ago, “pro 660+ geared players” told me how NOT rng the Fight was…
Well… what can i say…
I got it down with my Fire mage and it was a total Mayhem of BS.
64 tries.
I agree totally with you, and the fight feels so much Clunky its nowhere near a “challenge” rather a russian rullete of a fight.

As someone who has completed both ? and ?? on relatively low gear, I can happily say that in terms of pure difficulty, Underpin is a joke. On ? especially, I one-shot it without even knowing the fight at all. ?? is more intense due to increased spawns and the shield.

Positioning is almost essential in this fight because if you can get the adds to group up together, so they can all be killed at the same time. Only problem is that it’s very hard for this to happen and relies heavily on RNG and if Brann has taunted the boss. But as long as that’s down and you got the damage to break the bosses shield, everything else is really simple and easy to deal with.

OP: Complains about RNG
You: Just have RNG line up perfectly

I mean, gratz on taking him down, but it’s in no way a “fun” encounter

I never used the word fun when I was talking about the fight.

What are you on about?

Why you replying to me?

farming the real deal title?

I can understand that the subject can be two sided.

This is just a end game thing blizzard overturned and made hard for no reason due to previous boss was a joke. But I agree that there shouldn’t be 8 robots that spawn and shoot you to death, It’s a bit of an over kill considering the previous boss had only one add that you had to kill.

Just make the adds less and have it be about killing one add instead.

But blizzard is blizzard we wont see a change in this melee meta/uncapped aoe class meta.

blizzard has a fetish for swirls and lines and stuff on the floor.

This is my plan, but for the ? version. I don’t enjoy banging my head against the wall in the hopes of getting one lucky try.

I killed it at 640 week 2, on my brewmaster, but it sure is not a fun fight at all.

Theres so many time he jumped to Brann across half the arena and then shielded himself.
