Underpin fight is some of the most poorly designed dog I've ever played

Title.

  • Kicking bombs is often impossible because the boss stands on top of them. Moving into melee to kick the bombs makes the boss also stand on the bombs.
  • RNG bomb placement can make for extremely frustrating moments where they’re placed on relatively faraway oil pools and are pretty much unreachable. There’s no pattern to the placement of anything in this fight.
  • Brann being all like “Let’s keep a strategy in mind for the next fight” makes me want to punch a hole in my screen
  • Blizzard making swirlies much clearer in this patch and yet underpin’s flamethrower area is probably the most vague telegraph I’ve ever seen in a WoW fight

I’m seriously wondering if someone actually playtested this and thought “yep, seems good”

most of testing is done by mythic tryhard pushers in PTR

blizzard allegedly even fired their QA teams - because why pay people when streamer tryhards will test for free.

This frustrated me too. I legit had to roll away from the boss on my monk to be able to do the tactic.

I had the mid-Delve Underpin spawn in Sidestreet Sluice (The sewer-like one), and i couldn’t kick away the bombs because they were stuck against pillars and other scenery rubbish, barely had enough space to move even without the damn bombs, not fun.

Having the difficulty of the random spawn depend so much on where it happens (So RNG, pretty much) is potentially very frustrating.

I tried it on ?? And holy cow is it a mess, adds come out way quicker and usually spawn all around the 200 yard arena, brann is perma dead the whole fight, Not to mention the bosses 380m healthpool and shield that he puts up at 100 energy.

Was fun him spawning on me while I was doing a Tier10 solo at the boss at the end, giving out damaging his stuff… was running like a maniac taking on both with bombs everywhere. :rofl:

Amongst other things, the arena is simply too large.

Adds spawning in the stands is just bad, but also add in that they can spawn the opposite end of the arena and be literally so far away that neither their model or telegraph is visible or reaches the player, yet still have infinite range on the attack.
Meanwhile, kicking the bombs seems to be random - the ‘??’ designation on this fight might as well apply to the distance the bombs will travel, whilst the impact detection of them means you have to be near pixel perfect.
Once you get past having to be stood practically in their model to be in range. Which makes the aiming even more fun.

This isn’t what ‘hard’ is. It’s fundamentally poor design, abyssmal implemention, and if it was tested, I will be surprised if that even went as far as - being generous - ‘Can the player enter the instance?’ .

Only faced him once when the summoning beacon thingy dropped from a curio.

The bombs were super confusing to use.
At first i thought they were like the crowd pummeler bombs that you have to kick back at the boss, but when i figured out that you’re supposed to just move them to make safe zones I gave up on the bombs & just pulled the boss to safer areas.

Dont know how well the bombs coat the actual arena as the spot i was fighting him didnt have much room for the bombs.

Agree, cant hit the bombs since boss model is too large.

Same thing was happening to me with Zekvir and cocoon add, when he spawns it next to himself, boss is just too large

You can use TAB targeting if you have it bound.

In the Zekvir encounter, there were only two targets for you, so it was very easy to just TAB to the cocoon.

So no, Zekvir standing on top of a cocoon was not an issue at all. And if it was, the issue was you because you were unable to use TAB.

Nowadays, TAB targeting works much better because it prioritizes the closest casting enemy.

Standing on the bombs I need to kick is super frustrating.

I do wonder if I need an interact key.

  • btw if you use an interact key and put brann as DPS
    this boss is easier than zekvir

  • you can Dot the adds or use range spells to kill em or pets , you dont HAVE to use bombs, bombs are just quicker

  • save cooldowns for shield phase

  • save Drums/hero for a phase when you get both adds and shield

  • you can “bait” the lazers from the adds

  • you can use ANY potion or item , be creative. im sure theres some movement speed items in game that might help with oil slicks

The whole delve system seems ultra bugged atm. Randomly the elite underpin mobs in the delves falls though the floor when spawning in. Making so you not able to do the nemesis chest upgrade.

The sprocket bombs on that underwater delve boss ( the ones that fixate you ) seems to be able to spawn inside the terrain and get stuck, making the fight reset.

The Underpin ? ? : Bugs / or maybe features
Boss adds spawn outside the arena and making you unable to kill them with the bombs ( so pretty much a dead try ).
Adds from the boss spawning in north and south, making it so you gotta kick bombs all the way to the other end to hit them.
When the boss is standing ontop of you, aiming the bomb meh for melee.
Brann is really useless in there, like why even have him in there if he dies in 10 sec, heck i had him die first bomb rain, then ress up auto, then instantly stand in the flamecannon and die again.

Seems like the fight could be fun, but its hella bugged atm, some ppl done it beeing 650 ilvl or so, so it is possible to do i guess, just seems abit meh to leave it up to chance if you get a buggy try or not.

Last thing, i dont know if its same with this one as it was with zekvir back when i did it. Is his abilitys speeding up / randomly choosen each fight. Zekvir you had to reset the instance sometimes, cause his abilitys where either speedup or in another order making the fight annoying

Use the INTERACT KEY, makes life infinitely easier in WoW… even makes fishing a lot easier just pressing it instead of clicking with your mouse on the bobber.

I was wondering where that third set of mobs went when i did that tier 8, i backtracked through the whole Delve, and no sign of them.

On a related note: Does that chest for defeating Underpin cronies ever drop anything worthwhile?

Yeah Underpin is annoying but when Brann stands on the bombs and I can’t interact cause he wouldn’t “getoutofthewayy!!” is priceless.
Biding the interact button made my life less frustrating.

I think this was mentioned on a US thread, but yes - something like more adds spawn each wave or over time, and that increased count doesn’t reset between pulls (along with everything else, like CDs… ).

It’s like once you enter, the whole thing is on a single constant soft enrage. Resetting the instance seemingly works, sometimes.

When it becomes too hard keep track of stuff that’s going on and at the same time trying to avoid stuff, keep yourself alive and rez Brann… I realized I’m getting too old for this. >>
I do enjoy delves at difficulty 7-8 and that’s about it. Anything above that is stressful and annoying to me… that includes all these delve bosses as well.
I guess I’ll wait until I get better gear and try it again at a relaxed pace :'D

Honestly, this fight needs to be redesigned, why is it rng upon rng upon rng upon rng upon rng.

Oh and ontop of it all, all specs besides dps brann dies instantly
