Underwhelming reward from "reputation chest"

Greetings.

I’ve received my first repuation chest after reaching max renown level with Valdrakken account.

Inside the chest there were. Roughly 1k gold 100ish dragon island supplies. Some pet battle tokens and some pet battle bandages.

This feels bit underwhelming considering how much effort you need put to it. So my question is. Are the other reputation chest similar or did i have just bad luck?

And are blizzard going to increase the rewards you get when looting the chest?

It’s useless
I opened 3 paragon chests so far from 3 different factions and had the same stuff
Kinda worth 3-4 expedition scout’s bag

But no matter i can at least say my rep grind is complete
Gives me time to focus on the paragon rewards i missed from SL
But that’s just me ofc

im max with iskaaran and then decided to check wowhead what the reputation box contained and immediatly said hell no im not gonna bother! so this week i have skipped all iskaran stuff its like 3 renown levels you have to get for that we should get 10 k atleast

That’s a bit tricky and not as simple as you think. So, what more reward from it? Because if they put more cosmetic/titles/whatever rewards in these boxes, the question is, why not put that in the normal renown progression path? It’s better than putting the reward in what is essentially a “loot box”.

So that leaves gold reward. You might want more gold in the box. The thing is, easier to get gold will not benefit you as much as you think because it will lead to even worse inflation which will raise the prices overall in the game. Therefore, 1k gold in these boxes is more than enough.

In conclusion, as you can see the “issue” you are presenting here does not have an obvious solution.

I think this is a great change if this is what they intend. I have detested having to carry on farming a reputation to fish for rewards that should just be on a vendor.

They could up the gold a bit but I’m glad it’s not got anything I need to farm in them (so far).

Valdrakken is “easy” to farm, like Iskaara
The other two? Centaurs with the hunt
Expedition with the treasures and relics, but that is I think the slowest; if yo uare hurry? It is possible to have everythin on max and grind paragon, just needs a lot of work and effort

Problem is that in order to get those chests, it require you to farm 7500 rep, which means, 500 artefact, 28-29 Great hunt worth of trophy, 5-6 soup event and it’s not even doable in Valdraken to farm it properly since pretty much everything is weekly or bi-weekly based.

Let’s be real, this reward not worth doing the farm. It would be fine-ish at 2000-2500, but 7500 is a pretty long farm to get 1k gold, some pet charms and a little bunch of rank 1 minerals (when i dont even mine them anymore since forever).

It could have dropped either rare materials, 5k gold or even a currency to buy something big on a merchant (like the Etherial in Dalaran Legion), but this few is just demotivating those who get to that point and farmed their first cache.

Remember the 7th Legion from BFA? It’s paragon cache was giving 5-7k gold and i farmed them since it was pretty easy. I had one of them each 2-4 days, depending on the rotation of WQ and Warfronts. At that time, it wasnt a great income, still it was enough to pay for repairs and basic consumables. It’s not enough income to cause inflation.

It wont.

Its not.

Dragonflight rains gold upon you.
Within 15 minutes of farming tuskarr chests you would have thousands of gold gained.

For the average player, 3 renown will take a couple weeks. That is so much more effort than the super easy gold making we have.
1k is a waste of time.

Yes I received my first one today as well. It really was quite pitiful.

I appreciate they don’t want to be handing out as much free gold as they did in Shadowlands. That’s fine… but 17 Pet badges? 1 Rank 1 healing potion?

Come on Blizz… really?

Doing completely unneeded make work and expecting a big reward?

Good that they don’t attach a decent reward to such pointless things if I’m honest.

totally agree here

I think the point of the reward being so mediocre is to stop you feeling like you’re forced to grind all those artefacts, great hunts etc. You’re not supposed to farm it.

Expedition chest is just as useless. You get better loot from one dirt pile.

Glad I caught this topic before opening my first paragon chest today, they could’ve at least added some appearances or mounts.

Never claimed it was. You don’t need to farm that much reputation. These chests are there so your extra reputation will not be completely wasted. But they certainly are not worth the grind if that’s what you are aiming for.

This would increase the supply and reduce the prices in AH.

This would worsen inflation.

Then why not add it as a reward before you hit max Renown?

Good. You are supposed to be demotivated. There is no worth in doing more grind after you hit max Renown. That’s how it should be IMO. If you like to grind as an activity you are better off gathering materials anyway.

Yes it would. Basic macroeconomics.

And you want double down on that with even more gold? Inflation is bad for the players.

Read above. It should be a waste of time. You hit nax renown, that means you finished whatever you had to with those reps. Still if you enjoy WQ content you can keep doing it. But in that case you won’t mind doing these activities no matter how much gold you gain via chests because you are having fun anyway and the goal is not to grind enough to get the next box.

Maybe you’re fine with it, but i’m not. I don’t know for you, but since i’ve already done almost all my season-tied goals i had hopes to find in the open world some repeatable content to do casually, especially in between farming nodes for my professions. But if i have pretty much nothing worth of a reward to look forward to, i’ll just ignore it, focus on what’s worth doing and wont participate to the open world ‘‘group’’ content.

Yes, intrinsic motivation is a thing, and yes, i like Dragonriding and Climbing world quests, so i will probably still do them, but, those activities are not those who need peoples to work properly. In 1-2 months from here, when pretty much everyone will have done their renown, there wont be anyone to help new players to do it and then, they will have a hard time to acquire renown because of it.

Today, even the ‘‘Aiding the accord’’ weekly quest is not useful to accomplish anymore, aside from gold or Renown token for… rerolls (if you have some).

If it’s really by design, it’s sad and means Open world events have a grim future ahead, and means Wow devs did not understood what makes people do those in Gw2.

Do you think Tarir is the most farmed event because it’s the prettiest or the coolest event of all? No, of course not, everybody run’s it, even if it’s the toughest of all because it’s profitable. There is so much crafting materials, raw gold and keys to drop in the end of this event that there is multiple layers of this map Every time it come up, even in the middle of the night.

Most GW2 profits as a player comes from Crafting materials, and that’s exactly why event drops so much of them as a reward, to incentivize player to exchange, craft, speculate on AH, instead of just farming raw gold.

But since wow did not changed it’s reward loop, Events dont feeds the Economy/Crafting that would have fed the PVE and PVP content, which leave Open world Events to their inevitable death.

The only fix possible now would be for the events to be a profitable raw gold farm and Paragon could have provided that, but… no, let’s let the content dies from being abandoned by players because they are demotivated to do it.

Evergreen content they said, hey?!

I’m very much in the “if you don’t enjoy it, don’t do it” camp and am happy to farm content (like paragon chests) when I think the drop rate is worth the effort, but ignore content which isn’t fun even if I miss out on a mount I want.

But there’s a section of the player base that suffer the FOMO very badly, and feel forced into doing content they grow to hate for rewards the feel they must have.

Who is right? There’s a grey area between the game exploiting players’ natural human urges and players not taking responsibility for their own in-game decisions.

Here is the source of all your problems. And that’s “you” problem.

Of course, I am. Do you think for example I run random BGs for the rewards and the honor points? I do them because I like them, not for the rewards.

That’s not true. First of all, some people have alts as well. Secondly, there are plenty of people who find joy in helping others like myself for example. And finally, most activities do not need many people to be done. Some are soloable, and some other work fine with 2-3 people. So no, renown will be easily farmed even after 1-2 months. Not to mention that in 1-2 months Blizz will implement some catch up mechanics like they always do. So it could actually be easier to farm renown in two months than it is now.

Open world content never died even during the Shadowlands era. What makes you think it will die now?

You underestimate how much people love relaxing farming for the sake of farming. And since the open word is the only place to do such an activity it will never ever ever die. If nothing else, open world activities have more variety than ever, and more will be added in the near future.

The Trading Post will be like that. So they did keep their promise of adding evergreen content.

What you want is what they implemented in SL and people hated it for it.

You are in a minority, get used to it. The person who you liked as well said it perfectly. :point_down:t4:

That’s possible with how DF handles content in general. It was not possible during SL.

After 2-3 month, over the 1000 required for Renown, no one farmed Anima as all knew it needed too much to get any reward and it wasn’t worth the effort. It came back in 9.1.5, when they buffed the anima gained by a bunch, but i felt pretty much alone when i was doing WQ runs, as there was 2-3 people max in each zone.

9.1 rare farm did last maximum 2 months before people started to flee massively from the game, only coming back for raid time or to do instanced content with friends. Korthia died so soon it was a real shame.

9.2 did a little bit better, dying after 3-4 months. The lightier feel of the patch as probably helped and 9.1.5 had done some thing to makes thing better, so there was hope.

I really liked the 2 first weeks of DF. It was very nice to see all those bus of players doing events, farming for the black dragon scales and calling for unknown rares. But let’s face it, aside from the soup, there is already a decline in interest by players since the season begined. And most people are far from having finished their renown track.

Event should be evergreen content, but no one will do a Great hunt that takes 30min to do solo, when in group you can do it as fast as 2-5min. The soup is and will ever be evergreen, as it is well designed for solo/few players, as well as for massive group, and the siege takes just too much time to do solo.

I know this since i’m actually playing on a RP realm (so isolated with only RP realms), chill farming in WM where there’s no one and even sometimes at night. And as i understand the trends of the game, ups and down of the amount of players, even if i really like those kind of events, i see a pretty big flaw ahead.

In the end, MAYBE, if Blizz stick to their words and launch a big quality patch every 63-ish days (6 patch in a year), maybe they can keep players from bleeding out in between patches.

But even with as many people sticking on the game, you have to make them interrested in playing those events.

But people dont tend to farm reps on their alts. Some will, for crafting plans, probably, but they wont be the majority.

I would not count on it this time as they already implemented it and communicated about it as being the catch up.

As much as i’m hyped about it, this is content for 2-3 days a month. I know they will re-introduce Mage Tower too at this patch. Yes, this is an evergreen content, but Events should be as well. The paragon reputation are great a great way to make them live at least for the expansion to come. Not using it accordingly, giving OPTIONAL rewards, like a reliable gold income or valuable Crafting Mats is pretty dumb.

No FOMO, no stupid low mount drop rate, just something more valuable than 1k gold every 2 weeks because you made it by accident.

If that’s what SL gave, well i suppose i missed it. Open my eyes.
