Universal Hairstyles

So… Customization… A place where countless improvements could be made, and something everyone gets to enjoy. New stuff is always awesome, and should be made, however, even older things can be reused to make something wonderful.

I have to say… there had been a lot of pushback against this in regards to void elves getting blood elf hairstyles. But what if they got the hair of all other races (unless specific cases where it would look too goofy)? And same would be the case for others - night elves, orcs, draenei, … whatever you can think of.

The only thing is that special accessories to the hairstyles (those that have any) would be racial themed. But we already saw that before on a portion of hairstyles that some races share.

Amazing example of void elf hair on night elves by Ramavatarama:

And here in reverse; night elf hair to void elves:

Same hairstyle, different accessory:

Night elf, gnome & dwarf - same hairstyles:

As you could see on the provided examples, this had already been done a long time ago. So… why not get it to the “finish” line and not apply this to all hairstyles? After all, one’s race does not dictate what kind of hair they can have.

Sounds like a solid idea and I love it. Especially since most of the human female hairstyles (my main) are old graphics.

To give an example, below is the copy of the Pandaren female hairstyle on a blood elf female. Look how amazing it looks.

I just don’t think adding more customisations is really important enough. Especially when they’re on a roll would good gaming content. Best not distract them really.

A haircut doesn’t make or break a game.

Long beards for humans, in my lifetime?

It may not be important enough for you. And that is fair. However we have to consider the rather large roleplaying community too, who could really enjoy this. And besides - this isn’t something that is only for them, but available to everyone.

Also yes, they are doing well now. However, there are still things that can be worked on. Plus, even last time the customizations satisfied a lot of people. So basically you’d be able to raise the happiness of your customers, which then would with high probability lead to you gaining more income from them.

Customisations are great if they cater to the majority of people but it feels like they only add crap that is specifically tailored for a small percentage on Twitter while they CBA for the rest.

Human hair still looks like playdough and orcs are balding in every hairstyle. I’m seriously not a fan of the majority of the customisations they have.

But a few new haircuts doesn’t your game in anyway.

All it doesn’t is take resources away from where they are needed more.

I like this. We can never have too many customisation options.

where would the artists be needed more though an artist that don’t work is just dead weight

Hit the nail on the head here.

Spending more resources on Game Development and QA Testing and fixing bugs is a much better idea than spending money on “dead weight” as you call it.

Whilst I appreciate the Art team is an important part of a game. It’s essentially a layer of marketing. The more attractive a game is visually can attract players.

Nobody is going to pick up the game because there are a few new hairstyles. But they’re going to put down the game because the game keeps crashing every time they mount up because of a bug.

Its a balancing act.

but the art dept don’t make the game they simply do you know the art :stuck_out_tongue: my point was more that if the art dept is not actually doing anything they are dead weight so them making hairstyles and such would be doing something :stuck_out_tongue:

Yes, but that doesn’t mean there can’t be a shift in resources to fund Game Development over Game Art.

More customization options is always good, especially if they’re for goblins.

Surely there must be some sort of limitations… I can’t imagine an orc rocking a luxurious belf or nelf hair style… Like think of an Orc male with the belf hairstyle “Long Bangs” or “Headband” (names from the character creation page). Vice versa, a belf with the orcish and undead hairstyle “Spiked”…

I can see the logic between having smaller groups of hair styles, like elven hair cuts for all elves and so forth, otherwise I think you’ll get a lot more of this than you think:

I would very much prefer seeing them updating older styles, doing the old extra polygon treatment to many old assets (compare the human male hairstyle called “Soldier” to some of the newer ones like “Wizard” for example). And of course, keep creating new ones… This is very much a case of “more is more”.

I think because velfs have only 13 styles compare to belfs 21, it’s easy to say “oh can we have what they have please?” whereas if you also had 21, some of which were a bit more majestic, and less edgy, you’d probably wouldn’t ask for that. Furthermore, this elf debate very much seems to stem out from the “give alliance high elves” debate which is another can of worms I really hope I didn’t open! xD

I think doing yet another player model overhaul like they did on WoD, would very much let us customize even more things. Look at the Dracthyr they got so much little details they can modify. That needs a new underlying system to be put in place, not just a list of new addition that work with what’s already there. (Think body types, height, posture, chin shape, cheek bone shape, nose, etc)
