I’ve decided to have a go at getting back into WOW since getting a new laptop. The game ran perfectly back in October. I tried yesterday to play but the screen starts when loaded and although seems to run ok, is otherwise unplayable.

I would suggest installing new graphics drivers, to see if that improves things. Go through the steps to remove your current graphics drivers first using a Display Driver Uninstaller, and install new drivers afterwards for both your integrated and dedicated graphics card.
Once done and before testing World of Warcraft again, go through the steps toclose background applications.
