Hello People,
Today I am coming here because I very recently had the most unsatisfying support experience of my life.
Firstly, I will explain the topic I contacted Blizzard about. On April 23rd I decided to come back to World of Warcraft after a long long break and give it a try again. I started playing TBC Classic with a few friends and started my new old journey by leveling a bloodelf Paladin. Before creating this character I deleted an old character that had a name saved since the release of Classic Classic. That name being “Kz”. So I started leveling with my newly created Bloodelf Paladin and made it to about level 3 where I randomly received a kick from the game and then shortly after had to rename my character. I didn’t think anything of it and quickly named it the same way being “Kz”. After another 45 minutes of leveling I made it to level 6 and while that happened I got kicked from the game again. Now I have received a 1 day suspension. Me and my friends were and still are very confused about this. We’ve come up with multiple assumptions on what could potentially be wrong with the name, but they are very far fetched. Eitherway, I tweeted @BlizzardCS about this with sadly no response from them either.
At this point I am very discouraged of playing the game because we just started a gaming session and I just paid Blizzard 65+€ for a 6-month subscription and I just got banned like that and our fun night has gotten a quick end. So I ended up making a Ban Appeal Ticket for the Ban. That ticket took longer than the actual ban to get a response to. I tried being as specific as possible and asking very specific questions about the naming policy of Blizzard since the actual “[…]/support/en/article/34530” - Naming Policy gives literally 0 specific information and only gives general answers whatsoever.
So today I received an answer to my ticket.
The Game Master seems to have a strange view on the word “Support”. He didn’t answer a single of my questions. I think if you don’t know, you should figure the answer out as a customer support worker and rely the proper information to the customer instead of sending a link that gives no answers to any of my questions whatsoever. He neither gave an answer to my appeal, making it clear for me if the ban was fair or not. Nor did he give any answers to my questions and just ended the ticket by saying “We now consider this matter closed and would not look to enter into further discussion on the subject.”. So since my ban has already been over are we just gonna ignore the issue and move on? So I can’t get a proper answer to what is supposedly wrong with my name?
Quick reminder again, my character was named “Kz”. If you go to the armory right now and check how many characters with that name exist, you will come across 41 characters, with 11 being max level on EU and 4 guilds with that name. So how come for me that name is against naming policy, but for the other 45 cases it isn’t.
I am going to put my tweet here also which has some screenshots attached to it. https://twitter.com/DatGuyJin/status/1517947156593889281
I’m also gonna leave the Ticket Number: EU81689178 here for those who can review it.

Reupload cuz post got removed
Sure they have a lot of tickets to respond to in a day but the simple fact that he couldn’t take a min to figure out a good response to any of your questions is beyond me. Copy Paste Master
Took me 5 min after reading this to learn that “KZ” could refer to ww2 OR movement practice server in CSGO
My gaming experience is immeasurable and my day is ruined
Support are not allowed to give specific reasons for a ban, a forced rename, or a mute, because that has led, in the past, to players arguing the letter of the rule, and how theirs was an exception, rather than the spirit of the rule. So nowadays, they are only allowed to give generalities.
I believe its against the naming policy to use a copyrighted name. KZ is a copyrighted name, belonging to a major headphone manufacturer. It’s even the first hit on Google.
Blizzard do not monitor characters for naming policy violations, so, someone actually reported you, and obviously Blizzard upheld the report.
The suspension was probably for renaming your character the same name as you just got force renamed for.
All the other “Kz”'s probably exist because nobody’s bothered to report them in-game yet.

I would love to believe that I got reported but that can’t be the case. There is no way whatsoever I have gotten reported. On my journey of those full 1.5 hours gameplay I encountered 2 players, 1 being my friend who I leveled with. 2nd being a literal level 6 orc in bloodelf starting zone fish botting. Either way. If the copyrighted name would be true then there would have to be around 50,620,000 names to be removed from the game since just only the Global Brand Database has 50mil trademarked names. Also why even allow naming yourself something and then punishing you for it. Why can’t names that are against naming policy just be not allowed like naming yourself “Illidan, Wrathion” or anything like that. Also there is 155 characters named “Amazon”. So I’m very very unsure about this one chief. And that is the reason why I would like to have clarification on this topic.
Amazon is neither coyrighted nor trademarked as a name (as a brand it is), because there exists this whole “Amazon Rainforest”.
But anyway, you have fun now. Renaming your char to the same name you got force renamed for, was rather… Silly :), and their response to that was very predictable.

So if you search “Amazon” on any trademark database it shouldn’t give a hit…right?
Even though I got a hit for Amazon we all know as the online store. A hit for Amazon which sells electronic parts AND a third one who sells food.
Same with Facebook, like cman what are you even pulling

See, this is why Blizzard don’t give specifics.
You always want to argue. I’ve given you what i think is the reason, and you’re wanting to argue with ME about it, even though I’m not anyone who can alter what happened for you.

Amazon Qualifies For Protection Under 512(c) Of The Digital Millennium Copyright Act
Surely you have to be trolling at this point. Either way your whole post and your “I believe” information was completely irrelevant to my post whatsoever. Thanks for nothing again.
Stateing facts such as Amazon being a DMCA Protected Property isn’t arguing btw.
I am arguing with you because you are completely missing the point of this whole thread

Also I can’t fathom how it is unclear to you that I am not here to argue about my ban or anything. The ban is long over. I just want clarification on the naming policy since it is a literal generalized pile of crap with no specifics whatsoever. And I am also here to share my unsatisfying customer support experience so nobody else has to experience this in the future and so they can improve on the quality of this.

While you are absolutely correct that amazon does indeed not have the copyright on their name, it sadly has nothing to do with any rain forest as amazing as that would be. Copyright protection is intended for Artistic, Literary and Musical works, a brand name like Amazon would struggle to qualify for atleast 2 out of the 3, but maybe you could find a judge somewhere who was desperate enough that you could pay him off to claim it is a a piece of literature?
Even so forcing people to not write down the name of ur company would be cataclysmic for your marketing team
it is however trademarked, it would be absolute madness if it was not, and I am not sure what made you think the biggest corporation in the world not have their name and logo Trademarked, quite the wild claim, and a simple google search would indeed answer the question “is Amazon Trademarked?” with a resounding “ofcourse”.
that being said, A name in world of warcraft would never conflict with any Copyright protection laws, and neither would a trademark as they only apply when used in a competitive field. You would not get in trouble if u used the amazon logo, or made a fake company for a school project called Amazone, since you would not be impeding on their field of trade.
While copyright laws aren’t quite as ambigious as trademark laws, they do follow a similar principle. and you would indeed never be able to run into trouble if you called your character the copyrighted name of deadmause. neither would Activision Blizzard.
talking about things you quite obviously have no idea about in a demeaning manor is rather… silly
and you being called out on it was very predictable.
