Unstable Affliction damage?

So I literally dispelled 1 Unstable Affliction… And I got hit for 21k ? Who balances stuff like this ?

Yet I’ll happily eat a 1.5 sec “fear” to dispel a priests dots. But will only dispel UA to get mind games IF I’m at full HP and know i can instant my self back up full or drop a grounding.

This is the part i hate the most about afflictions dispel protection, that and greater fade had been stealth nerfed to no longer let you avoid the damage from dispelling, i’ve been too scared to actually try testing if its fixed or not.

The damage is ridiculous and i don’t doubt it will eventually get nerfed, but it’s actually a scary dot to dispel while ironically people have no fears about eating a fear to dispel a priests dots. This is before you consider that it also silences players along with that big damage it does.

The thing is as well that honestly if you sit down and look at it, dispelling a shadows dots is obviously better than not dispelling them, but there’s no real urgency to dispel them, our dots (excluding plague because thats a short duration spender dot that is supposed to do big damage) don’t really do any significant damage that a healer has to worry about outside of it passively buffing our direct damage due to mastery bonus which as it stands in pvp gear is not really THAT big of a buff. Letting shadows spammable dots tick on a warrior is not an urgent threat you need to worry about, or probably ever worry about as you will be passively and indirectly actively outhealing those dots.

But for warlocks, even if they have the same issue damage wise of their dots you want to be dispelling corruption for that 50% slow because that is devastating to your melee (also ranged but more so melee), which UA dispel protection does a great job of deterring and punishing if you do, not to mention dispelling dots has a big impact on their malefic raptures.

UA has a stronger dispel protection because of its target limit but in arena that target limit is completely irrelevant as it can be talented to hit 3 targets, i think rampant afflictions pvp talent should have a drawback to remove some of the dispel protection either the silence or the damage as another option of nerfing it.

Problem stems from warlocks actually relying on the dispel protection and corruption slow to remain viable (far more than viable tbh, but if they didn’t have it they would be very far from viable) it’s not a healthy state to be in and they need work done on the spec to change that, most affli locks i play with hate playing the current version of the spec but do so because it’s the best spec available, most wanted in pvp and gets the results.

the disparity between both UA and VE dispel protection is evident.

UA should do something like cause the lock to gain an absorb Based on the remaining UA remaining when dispelled. And VE should slow the dispeller, the fear is totally useless.

Or simply nerf the damage. The silence is effective. The damage is far far to high.

UA damage and retri paladins wings need to get dirted.

Well you compare apples and oranges kind of. SP takes one gcd to apply it’s dots, and those are fully effective from start. Affliction has to take at Minimum 3gcd to start getting things going. And even then agony slowly ramps up. Of course the SP dispel protection will end up weaker.
Besides, SP can still do DMG if no dots are applied(void torrent, mind blast, plague, mind games) whereas Affliction does literally nothing without dots.
Yes the disparity is evident, and for a good reason. Although I’ll be honest with you, I’d like affliction to get the same treatment as sp where you can apply2 dots with one gcd, or apply all 3 dots on a gcd, with a cool down tied to it ofc. Right now affliction need that UA protection, but with the scaling they may grow too strong, but if UA dispel kills you how do you counter? If you nerf UA dispel DMG,isn’t affliction gonna be useless after that ? Hard one to balance, but I think FOR NOW, it’s important that it remains as it is or you delete affliction from the other part of PvP; arenas.

Dont dispell it. Its 1 shot hit to ur total hp usually.

lool yh its realy cool when a warlock spends half an hour doting everything and a healer goes brrrr *1click ops all dots are gone.
its not like a lock can “cast” without getting silenced by 50interrupts that everybody has nowadays. all they can do is… dot.

only thing i see would be puting a cooldown o dispel and making it remove only 1 per cast. its retared removing 5/6dots with 1click but ok <.<

Valid argument - I actually agree with everything my issue isn’t the protection element I think as a dot class it’s essential (and to the other OP, dispel does have a CD, and we can’t just spam it, it’s also a full GCD - which could cost up a GCD of healing), it’s the scale of the damage produced when you do dispel it, which is my issue. The silence is fair, it makes you think.

The damage of 24k+ sometimes is far to high. Not an issue EXCLUSIVE to locks. I’ll admit. But just one that could do with being looked at.

Just no… I’m sorry OP but UA protection is there for a reason, when this wasn’t a thing everyone just spam dispelled because they had no fear of the consequences of 4 seconds silence and affection struggled to ever get going, in fact affection hasn’t really been viable in any expansion that UA wasn’t somewhat a good dispell protection so- just get gud and learn to not kill your self ^^

Secondly- in battleground there are various opportunities to buff ones damage beyond normal means, berserk buff, in randoms you can also use salt water potion for more damage

But why does UA have to hit for again, 21k ?

Why could it not max crit for 5k at most ?

It’s not like UA has a resource cost anymore, you can just spam it out without thinking.

Because it doesn’t hit for 21k standard without some sort of buffs - look in a bg I can take a berserk buff and murder a demonhunter tank in a all in on my sub rogue in this current average gear while his stunned, something I could never do without such a large power spike buff, same can be said about items like salt water potion which gives +30% damage

Also if UA crit for 5k I promise you now healers would just laugh and keep dispelling, this current meta it’s very easy to top someone from 30% hp to near full from what I’ve seen with next to no time and effort, you would just not care that your dispelling it!

again as pointed out by some posts up above also, affection unlike S priest cant do damage without the dots, they lack direct damage so this is how they pressure, the intent I believe is so you as a healer have to actually heal though the pressure and only dispell when its critical to do so. It’s a pressure spec I face it just like everyone else and I play a melee but I kinda respect that its needed to be scary to actually keep affliction viable

It may not be a resource but it is cast - meaning it can be stopped via kicks/CC

So you want to take away the purpose of Unstable Affliction? Locks also have to take the PvP talent for it to be able to apply it for more targets, it also has a cast time (and they are a single school casters, even their defensives gets locked out if they get kicked/CSd/interrupted).

You would currently enjoy resto druid very much.
