Update from Ion in Shadowlands Beta General Discussion Forums

Pretty good feedback linked in this video below. Timestamped

They want us to be “Venthyr Rogue”, or “Kyrian Paladin”. Because such identity has been lost from the game over the years! No, it hasn’t. As I mentioned above, we have always been class/spec combinations, nothing more.

Listen to your players Blizzard. Stop telling us what we want, and just let us play your game how we want to.

Especially because we dont are sheep we do not want to be stuck. We want to try out other things.

I wouldn’t call myself a sheep. I played ~200% mastery UH DK in raid on where every raider was either frost or haste UH. And I did pretty good logs. But … thinking outside of the box does not mean that I still wouldn’t seek the efficiency. I like doing good in combat. I like to try odd things (i.e. playing survival hunter in raids and M+, etc etc) , but as long as I bring my oddities to i.e. raids and M+ I want my oddities be above tank or dpsing healers at least!

Better yet if I’d not be bad and “just above tank” tailgating others. Not liking covenants as they are now is not in my opinion sheep mentality.

For someone like you, “Pulling the ripcord” will make no difference to you anyway. You clearly don’t really care about performing at your best and just play for the fun of playing. That is perfectly fine and I have no issue with that. But I really don’t understand why players like you want to actively make the lives of other, more competitive players more difficult by being against the proposed changes to the Covenants. The change wouldn’t affect your life in the slightest, so why do you even care if it’s changed?

Theres so much more to the meta than class guides, once again you should really go to a class discord some time and see how much theorycrafting is constantly going on and people listen to what these theory crafters say because they generally know what they’re talking about and can also provide evidence for their claims.

It doesnt matter what you enjoy personally if its numerically inferior in every single way.

Right now you just seem like a contrarian who wants to go against the grain because you think of yourself as “not like the other girls”.

Also if the only reason you like a system is because another group of people dislike that system then you should really take a step back to re evaluate some things

One serious question though

WTH is a ripcord? Or did someone get confused and couldn’t choose between ripping or pulling the cord and the words got smushed together?

Seriously? Definition:

[Ripcord (skydiving)], the mechanism used to release a parachute.

So the analogy is it will stop WoW from killing itself? Isn’t that a bit dramatic?

Maybe, but it was Ion’s own phrase

Shadowdudu above has already explained the meaning.

The reason it’s being used in the discussion is because Ion himself in one of the interviews used the term to describe the “last resort” option they reserved of allowing free selection of Covenant abilities.

I’m too afraid about covenants to even say anything. They’re dedicated in making all covenants viable for every content? There’s no way in all seven stages of hell that they’re managing that. Hell they can’t even balance the classes properly, now they attempt to balance all the classes and 4 covenants for all the classes for several different sorts of content?

This is a clear case of Ion being completly delusional and believing that his team is roughly a billion times more capable than it actually is.

I also genuinely don’t like the statement about PvP, that characters who do all sorts of content should be the strongest. I want a PvP character to be the strongest in PvP and a PvE character to be the strongest in PvE, without them intertwining with each other, but that’s wishful thinking that’s never going to happen, I am aware.

Anyway, the covenant statements… They’re terrifying. Ele, enhancer and feral are still garbage times 10 and they expect us to trust them with balancing 4 extra covenants for each class?

I’ll look forward to seeing how that entire thing works out. My expectation is that they’re not even remotely going to be balanced, whatsoever. I hope I’m wrong.

The spec now doesn’t mean what it used to. Being a restro druid in vanilla was part of your identity, now it’s your role in a particular party or raid.

The only role anyone would let you be in the endgame you mean

That’s beside the point, you can use any class/spec as example

PS: Wth, I got trust level 3 now of all times?

Either you met the requirements or you are in beta.

It was the latter of the two.

This community never fails to amaze me…

Seeing how they Implemented the grinds in SL I’d say so.

You realize it has never been about that ?

That pull the cord comment was about swapping covenant on the fly. Now you can swap once a week or every two weeks if all covenants share the same weekly quest which is unlikely.

Beside gearing issues it doesn’t seem like there’ll be a lot of pve forced grind tho.

Perhaps legos & conduits, I’m fairly sure the PvP vendors have a pretty decent selection but there might be some issues with pve exclusive drops.

There’s no such thing as a middle ground making everyone happy in the wow community. Damned if they do, damned if they don’t.

It’s not about making everyone happy, it’s minimizing making most people unhappy

I personally believe you need a mix of both, as by only minimizing the losses you ultimately don’t make anyone happy.
