Do you know these mounts that the Quartermasters sell in each city?
For example Nightsabers, Horses for humans, Tauren Kodos, Troll Raptors, Blood elf Hawktriders, or the Wolves of the Orcs.
Would also like to see the same with Gryphons, and Windriders, or also have others added like Dragonhawks in higher quality.
Wouldn’t it be nice to update these graphically at some point from 2004 to 2023 quality?
Not going to happen… what they will do - and already are going - is giving out new versions of the old mounts on other occasions, because if they’d just update the old models, I’m pretty sure some ppl would start complaining because the old models were “taken away”… like those ppl always demanding toggle versions for old UI/char models/etc.
They could just add one model each with mount customization for example. Especially for mounts like wind riders/ Dragon Hawks / Gryphom. They could also make them be able to use dynamic flight. Would just like to use these very simple mounts, but with high res.
In order to not make the mount customization screen bloated, they could add the barber for the mounts in each faction city, i.e. you go to Silvermoon to change the colour of your dragonhawk or Hawkstrider, or you go to Orgrimmar and change your Wind Rider or Wolf.
Paladins have been begging for updated class mounts. Yeah, it’s a long time coming. Have you seen the Zandalari prelate mount? It’s impressive. Put it next to a human or belf paladin mount.
Anyway, I don’t know if they’ll actually update existing ones since people seem to get annoyed when they replace stuff, I mean remember the drama in WoD when player models got upgraded? But they might add new ones.
Yeah I meant to ask to add some, not to replace them. For example the updated gorehowl didn’t override the old one…
It indeed would… but than I remember WOD where they upgraded the wolf model and instead of giving it to the orcs, they just made them the mount of the addon.

I know, and I agree but there are players who want to keep the old mounts no matter how the mounts look. As for the Gryphon and Windriders, there actually are updated version of the old mounts…sort of. You know the stone versions of those two mounts?
The Alabaster Stormtalon and Alabaster Thunderwing so wouldn’t be hard to update those mount look to the old ones with better quality armor and saddle. So Blizzard can update the old mounts yet still keep the old look of the mount. So yeah I think its time to update the old Heritage mounts but they can keep the old looks just like they done with Alabaster mounts. If some players still want the old shabby look of the old mounts, wow classic is there for you.
Blizzard don’t have to update every old mount in the game but atleast the Heritage mounts for all old races.
Maybe in Midnight the Blood elf mounts gets an update or Blizzard just make new Hawkstriders and Dragonhawks. We shall see.
In comments I added that the way I would implement it is to make them customizable only in the respective capital city similar to dragon riding mounts of dragonflight. Wouldn’t delete the old ones, but rather add one new one with a customization system that could also get stuff in events.
It really should be updated, instead if they try to update it, they don’t replace it but toss it as “new rewards” like we had in darkshore or with horses in kul tiras, That’s why I would be totally fine if they used AI to update that old stuff mess
it’s just ruining game, they should upscale all of these visible pixels, not change mount drastically but make it look fresh… when you lvl up it feels like you are playing a game from 2001, it ruins experience for new players, Old players would get used to these updates in max week though
Yeah, think that’s also part of the reason why they’ve come up with things like Exiles Reach and forcing new accounts to play through the latest expansion first… but it also ruins race identity and other things the original starting zones offer.
Especially if it’s true that AI can by now “upscale” low res models (I don’t have the technical knowhow to judge that), it would be an even bigger shame if they don’t just use such a ressouce to give the old world/models an overhaul.
Im hopeful for a Belf update with Midnight seeing as the world will get a revamp, so hopefully the animals/mounts/etc will get one too.
I mean we do have updated models of most of the racial mounts but I cant recall any high res Hawkstriders in game (even though they have been recent rewards, its still been the Minecraft model).
Also even when we do get new versions they tend to be tricked out, bling versions…it would be nice to have a basic high res undead horse or ram though.

They are gated sometimes though behind exalted of legacy content. Should a new player grind drustvar exalted to get a normal horse that doesn’t look like it’s from 2002? Not saying this should be free, but I think the capital mounts from quartermasters need to be basic, simple and high quality. Gryphons and wind riders are also very iconic, but they all look really old and don’t fit into the new graphics of the game.
Btw here another suggestion: During .5 patches it’d be cool to add Renown tracks with maybe 10 levels for all the major cities with these upgraded mounts and maybe some new armor and similar things.
