Updating addons without ads?

I have never seen ads when installing add ons. How do you manage to see ads when dragging the downloaded files into the wow folders?

And on wow curse where you download them i dont see ads either because i use an adblocker

You are missing the point Punyelf… It is not the size, shape, colour or location… A 3rd party app serving ads is a security risk and I do not trust anything to do with Overwolf at all.

I will be going manual for what it is worth (if I bother at all… logged in for ten minutes yesterday and logged out… me and WoW appear done.)

Yeah many of us were very dubious and when we had to use both apps I opted out of EVERYTHING before I’d touch it. The standalone version is much nicer as it doesn’t need overwolf to run in the background.

It’s funny to think we all used to download our addons manually. But they didn’t update as frequently as today. Or I managed a lot longer before bothering.

You looked at the alternatives? I have no idea if any of them run ads or not. Wowup still going?

Found this on wowhead in case it’s of any use:-

Often enough the ads don’t load in WowUp, this goes for both the CF and Wago versions of the app:

The WowUp Wago app allows you to subscribe to the wago Patreon and that will hide the ads for you.

The CurseForge app has a subscription model that allows you to hide the ads as well, but I have no knowledge on how this works as there’s not much to find for: https://support.overwolf.com/en/support/solutions/articles/9000178332-app-subscriptions-faq#ads

A while ago I’ve also proposed the idea to let users sub for an API key so that you can directly support authors on CurseForge and still use WowUp for example. This idea is currently a future consideration so no ETA on implementation: https://curseforge-ideas.overwolf.com/ideas/CF-I-2523

CurseBreaker is a command line interface, and provides Wago implementation without ads, but doesn’t work without Patreon subscription. This is the same as WowUp with Wago Patreon, just doesn’t provide a “free” tier with ads.

There’s a reason why convenience makes ALOT of money. People don’t want to manually open stuff and download, the manager does it in seconds. But yes, I agree

OP never watched youtube or fb where ads are on insane level.

I don’t watch either. Never had a fb (Facebook I assume account.)
