Updating older mounts

I recently watched this video from Tomkek, where he does a pretty awesome job of updating the original Pally charger to todays standards and it got me thinking how nice it would be to see some of those oldies given some love from the Blizz team. Even getting one of their interns to take on the project. I mean we’ve all seen the awesome job an intern did on Uther’s tomb

What’s your opinion on Blizz taking on such a task?
Would it be something you’d endorse or should their pixel deficiency be preserved for all to experience

They won’t because if they’re making new models for existing mount, they want them to pass as new content.

Wolf models were already updated. They were released as brand new mounts in WoD.

Investing time in activities that only benefit the players and doesn’t grand them anything isn’t something they’re interested in.

Thank you. This is exactly how it is with everything, not just mounts. Every old model of anything in the game is there for this very reason.

Have u ever looked at an old Talbuk and a new model one? The new one is crap compared to the old imo. So u really think I want Blizz to make me a new Anzu? or new Zullian Tiger? Nah ty I will pass on it, most old mounts look way better then the new models, in fact new models are ugly all the way, especially mounts and chars. My opinion ofc but I do hope they wont…

I think they did very well when they updated some of the flying mounts in MoP and made them available as new mounts.

There’s a balance between remastering content and keeping the old’s charm alive and I think that strikes it right in the middle. We get the remaster AND the old stuff at the same time.

I really like the new talbuk mounts. Te be honest, I’ve not seen any of the mount updates think are horrible. I really like the art style

I definitely DO NOT TRUST the current graphics team, and specifically their intentions, to update ANYTHING.

If they want new model mounts, let them create new models and add them as new items. Specifically, hands off my Headless Horseman’s Mount and my Invincible!

I actually like that when they make for example a new horse they dont remove the old model. Some people probably prefer the old models and this way we get more mounts to collect, and we also have a choice to pick between old and new models.

On the one hand I’d love for them to update older models, on the other I don’t trust them to do a proper job anymore.

Look at the jelly cat, looks nice but your character sits really weird on it. Hardly see anyone using it probably because of that. How did that even make it to live, nobody at Blizzard has eyes?

Same for that horse/unicorn model they added in Legion, it just runs weird all wobbly.

Personally, I would like them to update old mounts, especially Swift Zulian Tiger and Spectral Tigers and some others, but add them as seperate mounts similar to old Qiraji mounts from Ahn’Qiraj.

The old Qiraji mounts were updated, and they were added as seperate mounts and only the people who had the original mounts received the updated versions. So if they update the old mounts but add them as seperate mounts, both versions of these mounts will exist in the game, and everyone can use whichever version they want.

Also, It would be nice if they changed how the character sits on Glacial Tidestorm mount, it would be much better if it was changed so that it is same as Grand Expedition Yak, (same as sitting on the ground) or new Disc mounts from Shadowlands (Tazavesh Gearglider etc, character standing up in a fantasy pose.)

they made a mistake to remove for example the old cheetah form. Why not keep both! Update the n64 graphic models with new ones and build a quest around it.

new content to play and cool new unlocks!

That new cheeta form is one of the ugliest changes in the game, horrible…

I totally agree with you, this is the most rational way to go. So many mounts require visual update, ZG mounts, TBC and WOTLK Gladiator mounts especially, i see no reason why they still use PS2 graphics in 2022, meanwhile Scarab Lords got their update long time ago.

It is really in the developers sphere of interests to update them, imagine if, for example, CS:GO had 3D models from 1.6 and Source in the same game, it would be clown fiesta. Same thing applies to WoW, even if game files will get larger - just do it, it is very disrespectful towards people with rare oldschool mounts to keep them old-looking and unusable.

In Manacrew interview, Morgan Day, if i understood him correctly, claims that update of “legacy” content will eventually happen, but not in Dragonflight. This gives hope. May be we will regret demanding it to happen now, because there is a higher quality update on the Horizon, during some next gen hardware era?

Like mentioned before, if it is unprofitable to fullfill desires of community’s “legacy” players, because they are not the target audience of the game, just add up some hardcore timewalking content and award “updated” mounts and armor to everyone, but make sure they will get slightly different models and different color scheme, tint etc.

i am all for upgrades, overhauls, returning stuff etc etc, bit realisticly blizz don’t have the manpower for this. They can’t even make a herritage set

Apparently, they usually or only tend to add/update something when it suits situation of the game, like a patch or expansion update, at least that’s what I think.

For example: Warfront Weapons and Armors were added in BFA, as it was related with War and Faction Pride.

However, I agree with your opinion. If they add or update something now, it may look outdated compared to some next-gen hardware era graphics that could be introduced in the future. Still, I think it would be fine to add seperate, updated versions of some old mounts like Spectral Tigers and Swift Zulian Tiger, even now. Although they look outdated compared to recently added mounts, I love using my Spectral Tiger and Swift Zulian Tiger anyway.

I mean it would be extra work, but they could always update the seperately added versions later again in the future, in case of next-gen hardware graphic revamp. Like how they updated models of some important Lore characters like Lady Sylvanas Windrunner, Valeera Sanguinar and Jaina Proudmoore etc.

Also, if/when the next-gen hardware revamp happens, I hope they also add new compatible hood models that allow hair to be shown through the hood. Like Lady Sylvanas Windrunner and Valeera Sanguinar. If they add new compatible hood models, then the hair wouldn’t clip through the hood. And since they will make only these new hoods compatible to show hair through the hood. They also wouldn’t need to remodel every helmet item for every race/gender combo.

By the way, they can alter how a specific item appears on character, so I think they can do what I suggested above.
For example: there are some helmets show hair through the hood, most noticably the mail helmet from Darkshore Warfront, but the hair clipping through the hood, of course.
Appearance of some items can also be altered, depending if they are used in combination with specific item(s): Some helmets hide beard (noticed on Male Humans, atleast), forearm parts of some robes hide 3D details of some gloves, and some leg slot items alter the appearence of some boots, etc.

So, I’m always excited about news of new updates. I didn’t know about the interview that you mentioned, but if it’s correct and update of the legacy content would happen at some point, it’s good the hear that.

Well, they just employed 100 more people, so hopefully we might see some things like this getting done now. Just don’t let the ones who made the worgen heritage set make any more lol
