I recently built a new PC mainly for editing but a bit of WoW as well on the side as well. My Ryzen 5 3600 is running at between 60-72C at the moment with occasional spikes up to 82C ish. I don’t think these are terrible temps so I’m not stressing but I thought that improving the CPU cooler from the standard wouldn’t hurt.
The thing is that I’m a bit worried about doing it! I was hoping that some of you wise and knowledgeable people could put my mind at ease as I’m sure I’m worried for no reason and it’s nothing too difficult.
Case is more likely to be a factor in cooling potential than yer mainboard… your Corsair is a way more capable unit than my Antec P280, though .
From the viewpoint of an owner of a R5 3600, I found that I’m getting similar no’s, but the cooler I have is a bequiet! Pure Rock (I can’t do links). Are you using the stock AMD cooler (the one it came supplied with)?
The fan setup that the case looks like it’s supplied with looks to be very helpful, but it’ll depend on whether the fans supplied have 3- or 4-pin cables… and not the RGB ones.
3-pin cables only allow the mainboard to run the fan at full speed, but 4-pin allow the mainboard to regulate the fan speed based on the cooling required.
I have a SilentiumPC Regnum RG4TF case with the same CPU. Got Arctic Freezer 34 Esports Duo cooler (mind I also have 7 case fans) after I was getting 90+ degrees with stock cooler while OC. The Freezer fits in the case just perfectly - my case’s CPU cooler height limit was 159mm yours is 160mm so pretty much the same.
With the Arctic Freezer it rarely goes above 70-75 degrees when OC, without OC it is much lower. Was actually surprised with the difference. Not expensive as well.
Regarding the cooler installation difficulty, if you will be putting it on the MOBO while it will be in the case then definitely get another pair of hands. Preferably smaller ones - gf helping me around case fans was a blessing… Other than that, the installation is not as bad as people on the internet make it out to be. Just watch the video guide and check the pictures carefully. I was scared of the installation due to reviews but even though it took some time in the end everything was fine.
I currently have just the stock cooler that came with the CPU which is ok but I’d like to see the temps drop a bit. Not sure about the pins to be honest but the fan runs at variable speeds depending on load so I’m guessing it has the 4 pin based on that?
I’ve had a look at the Arctic Freezer and it doesn’t look too much different to the stock cooler apart from it probably being a bit taller and 2 as opposed to a single fan, am I right? It looks like it would be a straight forward swap over from the stock cooler to that, would you say that’s the case? I’d definitely be installing the new cooler with the MB still in the case.
If I’m not mistaken, you should have Wraith Stealth as stock cooler and if you check the Arctic installation over HERE then you will see the size and positioning is a bit too different.
Yes, it also has two fans, that have two cables connecting to one header which is 4-pin - the MB you mentioned does have a 4-pin so it should take control of the speed according to temps.
As I mentioned before, if you will be doing it in the case make sure to get a smaller pair of hands. The part where you put on the fans themselves can be a bit tricky, it will be a bit of RNG to put it in the “hole”, but with patience it can be done. Worst case scenario, you can always try to call a professional and he should definitely be able to do the work.
Thanks a lot for the link and all the info. That cooler looks like a right beast! I’m a little worried about the space to the side where the RAM is but I think it should be fine. Sorry if it’s mentioned elsewhere, but were all of the bolts etc included with the cooler itself or will I need to get anything separately?
I’ll call on the GF when it’s getting tight, she made connecting the case buttons looks like a piece of cake after I struggled for half an hour …
Yes all the screws are already present in the box. I saw a lot of people complaining about using the wrong set of screws, but if you will check closely in the “installation” under “AMD Socket” on the official product page, you will clearly see which ones are the right ones.
Also one problem I was facing and a lot of people are saying the same thing, once you put in the initial screws, before tightening them, the backplate will feel loose. This will go away once you tighten everything up. Was googling for half an hour about the backplate, then after tightening it, it somehow stuck properly. Physics…
