Hi I currently have a Asus GTX 1070 STRIX with a RyZen 7 1800x, on a 2560x1440 144hz monitor.
and my Fps in wow never seems to go above the 45/75 area with all addons turned off and wow graphics set to 7 with liquid on fair and shadows on good,
With addons I get around 40/60 and in main city’s 30/40 sometimes dropping below 30.
I have been thinking about upgrading my CPU to the Ryzen 7 3800x at the end of the month and was wondering if any knew if it was worth it or not.
And if you have a setup using a 1070 and RyZen 7 3800x what kind of FPS are you getting? And what settings.
Yes absolutely, especially if you are playing WoW and other games that benefit from a higher IPC CPU.
BUT don’t get the 3800x, get the 3700x.
It is the same CPU except the 3700x has a 100Mhz lower max boost clock.
You also want to get a good cooler to reach max boost more often.
I have a 3900x and while questing i can reach 144FPS, but not stable (2070S , 1440P).
Most of the time it’s above 100… more like 120 in open world (except cities ofc, 80-90 there depending on the amount of players ±).
In mythic raids i get 80-100 depending on the boss etc.
In 30 man raids less, and it can drop to the 30-40s when aoeing LOTS of trash
I am not an AMD/Ryzen user so can’t tell what the FPS would be like but the card is definitely quite a bit faster than the 1800x you currently own.
There are however faster Intel-alternatives that are similarly priced but that would require a new mainboard as well so that would up the price by quite a bit.
It also might be worth mentioning the rest of your specs such as:
What ram are you using? (Speed/DDR3/DDR4/What brand)
What storage devices are you using? (HDD/SSD)
Hey thanks for the reply,
looking at the price of the 3700x to the 3800x and the 3700x is oddly £10 more expensive on Amazon,
As for cooling I have a Arctic freezer 33.
Well ok, then get the 3800x of course if it’s cheaper
Or you could wait for Zen 3 - 4000 series coming later this year. Also note that zen 2 and 3 like faster ram than zen 1 so to get most of a new CPU you would also need a faster ram kit.
Only issue is I would like to get my cpu upgraded before Shadowlands hits and there. Seems to be no real indications on when the Zen3 will release apart from late 2020.
Currently I have Corsair vengeance LPX (3200 MHz) ram.
Like, you can buy a CPU day before release. Even if Zen3 won’t be out there can be other options. It may turn out their monolithic zen2 APU could perform better and be able to clock IF higher than non-apu existing parts.
Since I’m not in a massive rush to upgrade at the moment, I’ll leave it a month or two and see if any news about the Zen3 release date comes out,
Because it would be frustrating if I purchase the 3800x and then a week later they annouce the release date for it ^^.
In the worst case I just end up getting the 3800x which was my original plan and it seems alot better than my current 1800x.
The 4000 series will be out later this year but depending on your motherboard AMD has said their wont be any backwards compatibility with x370/b350 but that doesn’t mean their wont be a BIOS update to enable support though they have already back tracked on support for the b450 and unless AMD chooses to block them from doing it their is always a chance that the Motherboard manufactures might choose to still add support any way.
There isn’t. It’s AMD that provides the support and I doubt 300 chipsets will be looked upon, most cared about B450 that was sold with the label of future support.
Hmm from what you say,
Since I have a Gigabyte AB350-GAMING 3, Do you think I should just go for the 3800x then?
Because also reading today it seems they plan to make the 4000 series only available to OEM at the start so not a clear time frame on when this will be available.
Well as I said it depends on AMD if they put their foot down and say no then it wont happen or they might just leave it up to the motherboard manufactures to decide on adding support, but it depends when it gets closer to launch if their are enough people kicking up a fuss they might back track like they did for the B450 boards.
The 4000 series released now for OEMs are APUs (CPUs with Integrated GPU). They are based on “Zen 2” which is the same as the 3000-series CPUs. The 4000 series CPUs (no integrated GPUs) released later this year will be based on “Zen 3”.
TL;DR Laptop and Desktop APUs have higher xxxx-number than the CPUs based on the same microarchitecture.
It’s only for APUs and 4000 APUs are 3000 CPUs pretty much. 4000 normal CPUs will be the new thing.
There isn’t. You can go check reddit, twitter and alike. Nobody cares about 300 chipsets. Aside of that eve B450 and Z470 will have “beta” bios support but not guaranteed to be on launch day. AMD made it quite restrictive.
In the same boat as well the deals on the 3800x are really good at the minuet Just checked again down to £273.99 now at that price it is really hard to resist… a I am tempted to just go for it now.
Same it’s really tempting, plus since I have a B350 board if I wait and they don’t surport it then it was a waste since I don’t plan to upgrade my motherboard as well just the CPU
True but then the older 3000 series will probably get even bigger price cuts to help clear old stock so even if you don’t upgrade now waiting could save you a few quid
Well a quite dissapointed I upgraded to the 3700X and my FPS is the same as it was before getting like 30 to 50 fps in Boralus still. Seems so far to have been a waste of money
