Hello everyone.
Im looking to upgrade my motherboard, cpu and gpu.My budget is around 500-700e and i’ve been considering Ryzen 5 1600X,some intel processors like i3 8100,i3 8350K and nvidia 1060 3GB.
Im looking for some information on what would be the best and what components and combinations could provide the best experience in wow(at places where is alot of people like raiding).
I’ve heard multithreading option is coming in 8.1,so maybe ryzen could be a better choice than intel because of 6 cores/ 12 threads.
Cheers
Don’t get 3 GB version of 1060. It has considerably weaker performance due low memory. Either get the normal version of 1060 or consider eg. Radeon 560 or 570 as both of those can be gotten pretty cheaply now.
There are some multi-threading improvements coming in Patch 8.1 but I’ve not seen too many benchmarks on how it impacts game performance. Given the budget you’ve listed, an AMD Ryzen 5 with any mid-range GPU is probably your best choice. I’ve not built or priced out a PC build in a while so I’m not entirely sure what the exact specs of a 700 Euro system will be.
I would suggest to give us a link of a store where you plan to buy new computer components, then we could better suggest you something that is close to your budget, cause prices are very different and lets say way higher if for instance your country is not in European Union. Also do you plan to reuse your current ram memory since you wrote that you wanna change motherboard, cpu and gpu? Or you gonna just reuse your case, power supply and hdd? Anyway I would also suggest to go with some AMD Ryzen cpu since Intel CPUs as of recently are way overpriced which is cause of supply shortages.
So that being the case I would suggest next, according to prices in my country:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2600 ~ 210€
MB: I suggest to take some motherboard with AMD B450 chipset, with 4 memory slots for easier ram upgrade latter and with 8-pin cpu power connector ~ 100€
RAM: 2 x 4GB of some fast ram memory, like 3200MHz and with lowest CAS latency that you can find, but spec depends on a price cause fast memory often tend to be overpriced ~ 100€
GPU: AMD RX 580 8GB or if price difference is not too big AMD RX 590 8GB ~ 300€.
In total that should be around 700 €.
I am considering whether or not i will get new ram memory sticks.New power supply is pretty much needed i guess, however i can use my current ssd and hdd and a case so i’m fine there.
The prices of the components you mentioned are priced pretty much the same in my country.
I’ve read that RX 580 has high power consumption so a bit worried there.(its unfortunate that 1060 6GB is around 100 euro more expensive than rx 580 in my country).
Definitely will think about this. I appreciate the help.
P.S. Btw i was wondering why are Intel cpus so expensive atm lol
For RX580 its enough if you have some quality 500W PSU or at least 600W if it’s not. Basically you need one 8-pin and one 6-pin power connector for most of RX 580 and RX 590 cards, which should be present on any 500+W PSU, but you can always just open your case and check inside. Also RX 580 8GB should be a bit faster then GTX 1060 6GB or at least on par, if I’m not mistaken.
RX 580 is faster than 1060 and slower than 1070. Definitely a strong contender especially if nvidia cards are expensive. RX 570 is closer to 1060.
Some benchmark summary of RX 580 vs. other GPUs.

re: RAM if your current computer is pretty old you are most likely using DDR3 which is not compatible with current motherboards which use DDR4 memory.
You could even go for a 2600 + 590 combo. Not sure where your at, but in my country you pay round about 450 Euro for that. If you now go for a nice 450 mainboard + 16 GIG Ram, you are at approximately 650 Euro, with a new quality PSU 700 Euro.
An Intel - Nvidia combination is currently not worth it, as it´s too expensive. Unless you have a Gsync Monitor, the above setup is to be recommended.
1600 is a good CPU but if you aren’t planning on overclocking it go for the 1600x for the high clock speeds if not just go for the 1600 and overclock it to around 3.9/4ghz or if you can afford it get the 2600 and pair it with 3200mhz RAM and you are good to go.
Or another option is get the 1500x now as a stop gap and then when Zen 2 comes out around April/May next year just update the BIOS on the motherboard get one of the new 3000series CPU’s and just drop it in your MOBO some of the leaked info so far is showing them running between 8-16 cores running around 4.5-5ghz so finally matching intel on speed and pretty big IPC gains as well so worth waiting for
For the GPU go I would go for either RX580 or 590 if you can afford the extra they are faster than the 1060 in most games now and in a lot of the newer games they are quite a bit faster try and get the Sapphire Nitro+ or the Powercolor Reddevil versions if you can they tend to be the best for AMD GPU’s and have the best coolers, and I don’t know if the offer is still on or not but if it is with the 590 at the minuet you get The Division 2, Resident Evil 2 and Devil May Cry 5 for free unfortunately none of the games are out till next year though… and with the 580 you get to choose 2 of the three games.
