User content monetization

Problem: mogs bad, too little of them, art team probably runs on skeleton crew since forever and has to do everything from terrain onwards…

At the same time, there are many skilled freelance artists, publishing on deviantart etc etc

PROPOSAL:
Create an ingame interface, the artists submit their work (has to be up to par ofc) and based on the usage pattern of the particular mog in question get paid appropriately from the subscription we pay.

Pros:
-many design styles ingame in a short time at a cheap price for ATVI (again, has to be up to par, no blender beginners wanted)
-subscribers pay nothing, while getting more, making them feel good (see trading post feelgoods but 100x)
-more styles equates to more desitability for outfits, since more styles covers more tastes and you can leverage this relationship to boost raid participation numbers (probably lacking because mechanics and ugly sets)
-a vibrant “cottage industry” of freelancers forms around the game (in theory), further boosting engagement and taking some weight of promotion off of streamers’ hands (for better or worse)

Although I am sure there are some talented artists out there, this opens the risk of lots of trash getting through.

Last thing this needs is trashy Community Skins like you find on Steam. That’s why we pay a premium subscription and it’s not F2P.

There are enough Mogs in the game.

Lots of trash is already in the game, so that ship already sailed and with a rigorous acceptance process i dont really see this as an issue.

I pay for Blizz to produce that trash, so any trash that comes should come from Blizz.

But tbh, although alot of the mogs look trash now, when they were current they looked awesome. Things have just gotten better over the years.

You forgot to list the cons.
1: Playerbase erupts with fury when Blizzard hire staff to moderate player submissions for transmogs.

Blizzard designers have their hands full of working on new patches & expansions. I wouldn’t mind if the player base could create their own mog designs. For example, plenty of vanilla/tbc items look very outdated and terrible on some races. The community has already fixed and updated some sets. Allow those to be added in game.

okay Billy, the rails for this are already in the game in the form of shop mogs and Blizzard will probably figure out the content>monetization>more engagement pipeline.

plus the general trend of things in the “computer world”

best of luck with all of that bzns of getting bad mogs from Blizzard and being thankful for it. :smiling_face_with_tear:

Yes exactly.

Standards would have to be upheld for it to work anyway and if they would be there’s very little downside to this imho.

As I say. I pay a Premium Subscription for quality. Otherwise I would just play steam for their community content.

But since you have taken an interest in it. Do you like that Otter Mount from the Tuskarr?

That was originally a winning design for an Art Competition. But there were legal reason why Blizzard couldn’t buy the design from the artist. So they just hired as a full time employee and got them to make it.

Theres a WoWhead article about it earlier in the year.

Should just delete transmogging from game so that people recognize ilvl from gear looks again :joy:
