The beta works perfectly if you do this
You see, this is where the funny part comes in. You’re saying people can use a VPN to change their IP to the United States and potentially get routed through a faster hub, but here’s the problem: most free VPNs don’t let you easily choose your location.
Proton VPN, for example, can make getting a US IP a real pain, and constantly changing servers can leave you waiting before you can switch again. Even then, a VPN isn’t guaranteed to fix the problem.
Proper VPN services usually require a monthly subscription. So you’re potentially paying for a VPN on top of your WoW subscription, plus the minimum €60 you already spent for beta access.
At some point, you have to ask yourself how much money you’re willing to throw at a temporary solution. It’s honestly impressive. I imagine even a homeless person with no money probably has more financial sense than some of these people.
I have a VPN anyway for security reasons, not for wow, I was just trying to provide a potential solution for people who might be able to do this.
Oh, that’s perfectly fine if people want to offer solutions. It’s just important to understand that a VPN isn’t always going to fix latency. It can sometimes help with routing, but it isn’t a guaranteed solution.
The main point is that if people want to use a VPN, they’ll likely have to pay a monthly fee for one, which seems like a bit of a waste considering the beta ends on October 21 and European servers should then be available.
So, people can use a VPN if they want, but they shouldn’t expect it to magically fix the problem.
How does using VPN USA even fix anything?
Isn’t the reason for the issues the distance of EU players to the US wow servers, so using a USA VPN wouldn’t change anything would it? Sure the VPN servers are closer to the wow servers but then an EU player is still connecting to a long distance USA vpn server?
Edit: It does indeed work, tried it connecting to an LA server in USA. Went from having ping in 1000s and disconnects frequently to have around 200 ping (very playable) and no disconnects.
The easiest way to explain a VPN to someone who doesn’t know how it works is to imagine you’re driving on a freeway, motorway, or whatever you want to call it, and there’s so much traffic that you’re basically at a standstill.
That’s what connecting to the servers can feel like right now. Using a VPN is like taking an earlier exit and using back roads through villages and towns to try to avoid the traffic.
Sometimes that works and you reach your destination without any issues. Other times, the route eventually puts you back onto the motorway, and you’re stuck in traffic again. That’s why a VPN won’t necessarily work for everyone, depending on where you are and how your connection is routed.
There’s no harm in trying one, though. Just remember that most VPNs suitable for this situation require a monthly fee, so check whether they offer a free trial before signing up. And if you don’t want to keep paying, make sure you cancel the subscription.
tried Proton and it wants sub if you wanna join US
They applied a fix
Fixed absolutely nothing.
Just logged in to try and play a bit and on average I’m sitting on 450ms world latency.
Why isn’t there a EU server to begin with for beta testing?
We don’t count again?
I have been playing for hours and have 100 MS as per usual to the US, there are some other suggestions too if you want to give them a whirl.
Testing is always on the a US realm, they are also testing a new server system, it needs players all on the one. They aren’t going to run multiple server locations when that’s not helpful to testing. We are here to find problems and report mistakes in the game.
If you are still having issues and none of the suggestions work it is worth using the issue reporter tool in game to let them know.
613 in queue…gonne need some time change those settings, but worth a try.
Still should have added an EU server.
Swapped to IPv6 and disabled that speed setting - changes nothing.
Disabled the “speed optimization”, latency still around 1000, still getting disconnects. Game is hardly playable.
That’s unfortunate, I’ve been playing for hours with 100ms
Do use the issue reporter tool.
another point might also be to have everything on hand. dont know how exactly its set up. but i could easily see them usen external centers for live only. and run the beta servers in-house. such that if they need to change anything its easy. they can also have better monitoring of how it all acts. that can be especially important with a new system
Done all that and sadly no change, I can play for max 5mins before the world changes to “Unknown” and I can not longer interact with anything.
That really sucks. I hope they can resolve this soon.
Out of interest where in the game are you trying to play? I’m on the Skyborne starter area and i can play fine, but I have no idea if it’s relevant to where players are or if it’s just another issue.
That’s not to say it’s an excuse, everywhere should be testable ofc. But this is a beta and it’s always going to have things go wrong.
You’d be the only one from EU who’s not lagging.
And we paid for this pile of trash beta, incredible what these companies gets away with!
The Skyborne area is a no go, it crashes my client immediately upon loading, tried NE, Dwarf and human areas, earlier today I was able to play for around 40 mins outside ironforge, then it started happening again and since then I can not stay connected for more than 5mins.
