itâs something to do with being a weeb as far as I understand, and associated with furries and âcutesyâ elements of popular japanese culture and anime. I may be wrong so someone please correct me if I am.
The âUwUâ stems from the facial expression often given the anime characters expressing these cutesy things, eyes closed, mouth in the shape of a w to make a âU w Uâ face, usually accompanied by a kind of âooooowwwooooooâ sound, hence âUwuâ.
Ironically in relation to my earlier posted meme, if you listen to Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen, the sound Freddie Mercury makes after belting out âMamaaaaaâ in the initial verses is actually a pretty good reference for the sound - hence the meme.

Same here, but my work involves me interacting with relative âyoungâunsâ so I often pick up a rough, but not exact idea of what these kind of things mean. Enough to âunderstand that referenceâ but not enough for them to hide their cringing when I try to use it to show I understand.
