In a recent Q&A they just did today Ion said Valorstones won’t be a thing in Midnight. You will only use Crests to upgrade gear.

Never had any problem with them TBH, they will need to use something else instead of it, don’t think you would be able to upgrade an item completely for free to ilvl already owned when crests are not needed in this case, my bet is Gold as transmog will be literally free now
