Vault of the Wardens is the best dungeon in the game

I still don’t like Legion, don’t get your hopes up.

But I really liked this dungeon:

  • Fantastic music, epic all the way through
  • Fantastic voice acting, I really like the first boss
  • Unique, innovative and challenging mechanics on almost every boss
  • Great atmosphere and visuals throughout the dungeon

It’s rare for me to enjoy PvE, but I really liked this one. I hope they bring it back for M+ someday.

Too bad almost all of them are cheesed in TW by nuking the boss before those mechanics take place.

And before people cry about their party getting wiped to Glazer, it can be nerfed so people have time to realize what they have to do with the mirrors while the healer keeps the party alive.

The same is true for the Stonecore.
Back in Cataclysm, I thought it was really cool how those stone giants after the first boss could one shot the entire group with their stomp.
All you had to do was to jump right before the stomp “cast” was over, but people would always forget that and get destroyed.

People still don’t jump nowadays, because they have no idea it’s a thing - the stomp barely deals any damage.

Personally I’m not big on trash mechanics because it exponentially increases the stuff you have to remember. Bosses (post WoD) have an encounter journal that tells you what to do if you find yourself stuck. Giving trash unique mechanics you have to avoid and memorize is not friendly for casuals.

Can’t do that in M+ though. :dancer:

Well, back in Cataclysm, I was a casual.
I had no hotkeys, I was mouseclicking all of my spells, as a subtelty rogue. I sucked, really really hard.

Was I traumatized by those giants stomping me? No, I’m still remembering those fondly to this day.

What’s the purpose of exploring dungeons and killing fantastic beasts and creatures if they don’t feel like a threat?
Those giants felt dangerous, and as a result, it felt good to learn how to counter them and to take them down.

As a casual player at the time, I really enjoyed it.

The same mechanic is in vortex pinnacle on the last boss fight.

It was my least favourite in Legion.

Yes, Cataclysm had some of my favourite dungeons.
Tol’barad was one of my favourite as well.

Really? Why is that?

In Legion I mostly disliked the Eye of Azshara (boring lore, bland looking zone, unremarkable boss fights) and Darkheart Thicket (same reasons + terrible dialogue between Malfurion and Xavius).

Malcolm Reid from ST - Enterprise is the first boss

I have no idea what either of these things are.

What don’t you like about dungeons like Halls of Infusion this season? Should be your type of engaging gameplay, no? Uldaman on tyrannical is also interesting.

Anyway, if you like hard bosses, next season will have a very good dungeon pool full of challenges.

So you like Legion now?

Although I’m not a huge fan of the dungeon itself, I think that Legion in general had the right tone to the game. The overarching sense of impending doom, the urgency in the narrative is what the game has missed since this expansion.

Are you two related with each other by any chance?

Some of the current dungeons do nails part of the things I like, yes. But none captures them all.

At the end of day, it’s hard to care about any of these dungeons. They feel generic and empty. None of the bosses have any remarkable charm or character, or real lore significance.
The atmosphere is “ok” and the music is “meh”.

The gnoll dungeon also looks awful, I refuse to do it even on normal difficulty while leveling alts. It’s a nasty one.

I agree that Legion nailed that sense of doom of urgency…at the start. Faction leaders dying, the pre-patch event with all of Azeroth under assault - that was great.

But it all went downhill from there. At the end of the day, the “huge” assault of the Legion did barely any damage to our world. They only assaulted a secluded patch of islands far away from the main continents, and even then, they only captured the Broken Shore.
We weren’t fighting the Legion in Highmountain - we were chilling with the Tauren.

And then Kil’jaeden arrives! Epic cutscene, he teleports dozens of ships next to Dalaran, and then…not a single one attacks Dalaran? Dalaran is safe?
Demons are reborn if they die outside of the Nether - they could totally kamikaze some of those ships and crash them into Dalaran - the main hub of resistance where all the powerful mages and other major players are.

But nope. Kil’jaeden teleports those ships and they achieve nothing. Super, super lame.

Especially since the Legion demonstrated they have the firepower to shoot down flying spaceships.

Just got out of it in TW. A nightmare when you are not a tank who leads the group.

They have all sorts of demons, able to perform all roles.

The Legion should feel just as overwhelming and versatile as the Zerg swarm. But it wasn’t like that at all.

All I remember from Glazer when it was current content is that in M+ you just stood in his hitbox and you wouldn’t get hit by any of the swirlies.

Same, because with my vision issues(takes time to refocus my eyes after having to swap what I look at), the mechanic with the light one person carries around at the end was extremely energy draining. The mechanics are cool, but they were just very demanding on my vision so in the end I was not a fan of that one.
