So I have been venthry since start of expansion and so far its been serving me pretty well through natharia, mythic+ and my recent venture into pvp. My question is how does kyrian fair in raiding? Is the dps difference substantial between the two or only slight?
I’ve run sims on my character and I can see its roughly simming at about a 150-200 dps loss to go kyrian. I guess my reason for making this post is has anyone else made that change and how did it effect them and are you happy with it?
Admittedly I do prefer the kyrian visuals etc and I did roll venthyr mainly because it was simming higher. My problem now is my raid logs have been better than I expected to get, since this is my first expansion not only raiding as ret but as a melee dps and I don’t want to flush it down the toilet.
The Venthyr ability bursts so heavy in a 30 sec window that Kyrian cant really compete in terms of PvE damage. I also think that Venthyr overall also have the better Soulbinds Abilitys for PvE. Not to mention Wrath has 100% dmg increased in Ashen Hallow combine that with the legendary that boosts Hammer of Wrath and you do pretty nice damage in that period of time. And what is 150-200 dps now will just increase with gear.
For PvP however Divine Tool with the Conduit that boosts it is very good for Ret due to the burst potential in a very short window. But for damage its not really that amazing its not even a sure thing you will have it proc when you use it since with the 200 conduit its a 56% chance to cast so you might end up with it not casting which is also bad for burn phases or if an add needs to die fast etc.
I can see no upside with being Kyrian as Ret in PvE the ability just isnt strong enough in combination with the rest of the kit of Kyrian. Kyrian kinda suffers from being too popular and was overnerfed for some classes.
If I was you I would hold onto Venthyr for this first season and hope that Kyrian makes a comeback next, I know I do I really want to go Kyrian because I like them better than Venthyr but Venthyr is best for me as a tank aswell unless we’re talking m+ than Kyrian is really good aswell.
Well, if you look at top heroic logs for example you will find plenty of Kyrians there.
Sometimes multiple short damage bursts are more important and better for real dps than a single (or two) long bursts which will often be interrupted by boss mechanics.
If I sim Venthyr vs. Kyrian with my character, the dps difference is about 100 (2.2%). Sims are also not 100% accurate when it comes to Seraphim timings as Kyrian.
Also Kyrians get their second potency conduit this wednesday, which will be ~200 dps increase. Venthyrs have to wait 2 weeks for that and also the dps increase by a second conduit will be lower than Kyrian’s
A lot go Kyrian cos 1 min of 1 min dps window that line up well with ret talents and PvP trinket ( bis for pve)
Venthyr is good on sims but its is kinda easy to mess up 4 min CD when somethinh happend or Tank decide to move bosse out of it, it is alsow harder to use in PvP , its one reliable use is stelther detector cos of big area it cover
I prefered Venthyr from the start for its aesthetics and Ashen Hollow is a strong tool to turn notoriously dangerous pulls into free kills
I can’t see much use for it in PvP unless you manage to trap someone into a corner they’ll have a hard time walking out of, or maybe to help break up flagroom defense in a capture the flag BG
The thing to ask your self is what content is most important too you
Divine toll and ashen hallow both have advantages and disadvantages.
For me it would come down to your off specs. If you plan to play prot in m+ or holy then divine toll is a very small DPS hit to gain the bis covenant ability for both those specs
If you are only planing to play Ret or mainly focusing on Ret in PvP then I would pick ashen hallow
There is no clear cut one is better than the other here it is a case of what content do you see your self doing and which ability best fits that niche
Kyrian might be the best for Holy but it certaintly isnt for Prot, Venthyr is way better and have stronger Soul Binds. For m+ however Kyrian has the edge. But for raiding Venthyr is ahead by a good margin.
The best thing with Ashen Hollow in PvP is that you can randomly get a Rogue/Mage/Hunter/Druid out of stealth and delete them before they realize what happend.
If I sim Venthyr vs. Kyrian with my character, the dps difference is about 100 (2.2%). Sims are also not 100% accurate when it comes to Seraphim timings as Kyrian.
Btw, changed the simulation rotation for Ret Pala to line up Seraphim with Divine Toll, which is about +90 dps. Seraphim was used on cd before when using Sanctified Wrath instead of Final Reckining. So at least for me there is no meaningful simulated singletarget dps difference between Venthyr and Kyrian anymore.
