Vibe check for War Within

I’m in need of some time to really form my thoughts on it, but I’d love to hear your thoughts on War Within. I’m finding myself contemplating unsubbing during the honeymoonphase even before M+ and raids are out, and I’ve been here since day 1 of vanilla.

The TL;DR gist of how I feel is that there’s way too much gimmick, all the new dungeons I find annoying and tedious, occasionally confusing. I’m already tired of and claustrophobic of most outdoor zones being underground caves, I only enjoy Hallowfall. I think Dornegal is confusing and boring, at least Oribos had logical structure so I actually rate Oribos above Dornegal, which is a feat on its own.

I don’t know… I’m at a loss personally, I cannot see myself enjoying m+ either this expansion because of the new dungeon roster having zero wins to my preferences. Also too many mobs and bosses with unavoidable loss of control mechanics.

I’m going to sleep on it but I’m most likely not playing this expansion unless some future major patch overhauls a lot of things

How one can place Oribos above Dornegal is an absolute mystery to me. But if you’re not having a good time it’s best to unsub and come back later or next expansion. Personally i’m really enjoying almost everything so far, much more than the start of Dragonlands. In Dragonlands, Shadowlands and BFA i felt just like you do now, played a few weeks, had a bad time and unsubbed.

Yeah it’s weird, for whatever reason War Within is really not clicking with me. I played the hell out of all expansions at launch and at most major updates except for most of MoP, but this one I barely bothered leveling two characters, and I’ve done the dungeons like 6-10 times each on normal. I did a few heroic dungeons and then I realized I was just not having fun. I found myself often irritated at some mechanic, or confused at where to go next.

I think my issue with Dornegal is that it all looks the same to me. The little symbol above the doors isn’t standing out enough to be able to clearly tell what one doorway is. I’d place a campfire roast outside of the inn, some market stands outside the AH or other visual flavor to give the entrances more… Life? It’s the first city I’ve had to constantly ask the guards where things are more than once for the same location.

The isle of dorn is currently my favourite zone in wow and dornogal is my favourite city in wow.

I love all the zones, but hallowfall doesnt do it for me thematically. Im not a light fan so questing with the arathi isnt really for me.

Im not a dungeon person so dont have to worry about if i will enjoy them in mythic+.
But i am looking forward to higher tier delves and getting to try the new solo challenge at max.

I will say that the expansion is feeling empty now that the quests are nearly all gone for me.
But im hoping delves will fix that.

I definitely don’t like the city layout and how spread out it is, I feel like I’ve already had to ask guards for directions more times than in all the other cities combined. Also the dwarf part of the story just seems very convoluted and like I’m reading some overly complex oc fanfiction about characters I really do not care about in the slightest. I usually read all quests but it’s such a chore with theirs that I skip that part. Their storyline quickly killed my hype when levelling, but Hallowfall and Azj-Kahet brought it back again. I hope the story will focus more on the void and Beledar, and less on the dwarves as time goes on. The dungeons are decent and the raid looks fun, so that’s enough of a reason to keep going for now.

What are you asking more exactly? For us to make you enjoy what you don’t?

I agree Dornogal is confusing as hell.

I disagree about this current state of the game being a “honeymoon” phase, in fact I think it’s quite the opposite.

With the AH currently bugged, some anti-climatic scenes, some charismatic characters gone and forced inclusions aka Faerin that bring nothing to the table, I think it can only go better from now on.

The dungeons will feel better for you as you become more familiar with them, there’s a few exceptions but IMO most of them are pretty good. Give it time until the actual content (m+ and raids)is available before judging.

Perhaps you’re not in the mood, give it some time and you’ll probably see things different as you digest them.

That’s probably the best yea, I’ll give that a fair run. There have been cases in the past of imo a dungeon being better in m+ due to changes made for it, typically roleplay elements and tedious bits being re-worked in favor of m+. (I don’t think Darkflame Cleft can be saved though, I personally really, really, really dislike that dungeon. Though I played it as Affliction Warlock and so many packs had mobs that die instantly, and a lot of the bosses were so gimmick-heavy, and the escort bit… Uff. I applaud the willingness to try something new Blizzard, but that one is hard no out of 10 from me)

And some of the “feel bad” combat mechanics may be better with tougher enemies since I suspect a fair bit of the annoyances now is the overpulling in low dungeons and having dozens of overlapping casts there. May feel better once we’re in content where people don’t pull packs 5x the size of most classes aoe cap

I think what makes Dornogal feel off is the absence of a central plaza, though once you memorize where the street with bank, AH and delve dudes is, it’s not so confusing imo.
