Hey guys, put up a guide for folks who maybe struggling with SPriest.
Hope it helps !
Awesome shadow priest guide man!
Although I pvp mostly (and that on disc) the guide is pretty solid. Grats!
Going to copy out what I said on the video comments, as well as add a few extra tidbits here and there. Overall it’s a pretty good overview of the basics, and I thank you for doing your research and not leading people astray, though maybe 1-2 things do need a little more clarity as far as their different use cases.
Minor note on azerite traits for Mythic Plus and raiding: Chorus of insanity loses value in dungeons over what it sims for in dungeonslice because of the downtime between trash packs. For very high keys / medium high tyrannical bosses, you can bring one chorus for some boss damage if needed. Death throes is another very powerful jack of all trades trait that provides Aoe and single target, Spiteful Apparitions can also do the same. Spiteful is also very valuable in raiding, and with the second azerite ring unlocking next week, it will be our go to trait after chorus of insanity.
As a rule of thumb for shadow M+ azerite traits. Don’t use more than 1 chorus of insanity trait and don’t use a thought harvester without at least 1 searing dialogue. Spiteful and Death Throes traits are great all rounders that can fill in if they are higher item level, SD+TH is very good in fortified / trash heavy dungeons, but not so much in King’s Rest and Sethralis where you’d prefer something more single target / all around oriented, even on fortified.
Misery is the prefered talent in Sethralis, as the packs are mostly small, and the bosses have multiple targets which benefit from the improved multi dotting misery provides. This principle can also be applied to King’s rest, and some weeks of Boralus.
Tidbits:
There should be two globals between each Void Bolt cast (Your UI might tell you otherwise / you might think you can’t fit a cast without missing Void Bolt. You can). These globals can be mind flay or Shadow Word: Void when standing still, or SWP or PWS when moving. Just remember your ABCs (Always Be Casting) and make sure you’re getting every Void Bolt off on cooldown.
Try to move during your globals incurred by Voidbolt, and stutter from A to B as long as the mechanic allows you. This means you’ll lose essentially 0 damage or casts from handling movement.
You can shield up to 60+ insanity to open with Void Eruption, as long as the cast finishes before you enter raid combat. This is pretty finnicky, not worth all that much outside of some specific niche cases, and can backfire spectacularly. It’s perfectly fine to shield up to 25+, and open with precast SW:V, SWP, VT, SW:V, then erupt, which is much safer.
Don’t over move, especially on fights with big flashy mechanics like Zek Voz. Shadow is very efficient at making intravenous small movements, and if a mechanic can be handled like that, then do so.
Ellipsis…
Thanks man! This is the kind of info I struggled to find, the basics are fine and dandy, but insight and depth is something that comes with a lot of practice!
Thanks for sharing this with people, hope more of them see it!
