My current PC is one i built in 2010 so its almost 10 years old. Still running like a charm. But its time to upgrade. I am considering either the i5 or i7 when it comes to CPUs. And when it comes to video-card its either a ASUS GeForce RTX 2060 DUAL or a ASUS GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER DUAL. Not anything extreme, but in the lower middle. Does anyone have any any experience with any of theese cards? I would greatly appreciate recommendations.
Considerations for what spec. to use for a WoW build revolve around what resolution you want to play at, mostly⌠that said, check the System Requirements for Shadowlands, add that to your preferred resolution & build accordingly.
As for those two âexactâ cards, thatâs quite a wild shot to hope for others using exactly those two cards being on the official forums.
Depending on generation there is a difference in what i5 or i7 is. Also there are Ryzen CPUs which are really good, often best option.
1660 Super if you are on a budget, but right now people are mad selling their Turing GPUs for Ampere so you can get cheap RTX 2070 or 2080
WoW doesnât have high requirements but other games can have, so it all comes down to which games you want to play.
Iâm using a ryzen 5 3600 with a GTX1660 and have no problem running the game. The only bottleneck I have is the fact Iâm still using HDD instead of SSD.
Thatâs what i donât get, SSDs are so cheap nowadays and still alot of people think they donât need one.
I have been using one since 2014 and i canât even imagine using a PC without one anymore
Even the âoffice-PCsâ i built, all have an SSD for the OS.
Lots of people are using prebuilt PCs and those often are HDD only or run Windows on 120GB SSD + 1TB HDD for games and stuff. Thatâs also why older Intel CPUs or GTX 1060 and lower are still dominant on Steam survey. Lots of prebuilts went with those configs and even now that 120GB SSD + HDD is âcommonâ in less savy stores.
Please do not listen to anyone in this thread as they have no idea what they are talking about.
First of all, since you are on a budget AMD Ryzen is the way to go. Secondly, how urgent is this? If you wait until January youâll be able to buy the 3060 for cheap and it will run any game you throw at it on max.
Wow⌠itâs a shame they removed the downvote function in the forums.
The only one here who has no idea what heâs talking about seems to be you.
Obviously you have not read the OPs post, he said his current system is from 2010(!).
So you recommend him playing 3 months of Shadowlands with that system?
Iâm pretty sure he does not want to play at like 20 FPS on low settings at release, the most important time of a new expansion.
Especially if you want to raid.
Have literally just changed my computer . Old spec
I5 7600
16gb ram
250ssd
MSI Rx580 armour 8gb
Now this ran WoW absolutely fine , i ran with settings down a bit so i could run 2 clients . My only reason for change was another game causing me major issues .
So i built this .
AMD Ryzen 5 3600x
Asus Rog b550 f
Rx580 , yes i kepted old graphics card as i am waiting on prices to drop with next gen stuff hitting the stores.
500gb SSD
Corsair 750w modular
The new system gives me greater upgrade options for both CPU and Graphics down the line , and has improved WoW a bit in fps .
The old i5 7600 cpu has onboard HD630 , which in reality is still capable of playing WoW , it will look pretty crap , but is playable . I am setting this up for my eldest who has just started her GSCEs.
I would recommend looking into AMD Ryzen CPUs âgiven the price on Intelâ , this will give you a better budget for Graphics Card , but even then , there are plenty of options within the last 3 - 4 years that will run WoW absolutely fine.
