Hi
I dont know what you think but this game has a serious problem with visuals from enemy abilities. For example sanguine everything is red, affixes, abilities, npcs. In bation everything is blue.
Another current example is the mage tower. Everything is violete. NPC are violete, adds are. soak mechanics are.
WTF is wrong with the glorified “art” team people always talk about. I have to say these is the worst thing about wow.
Thats why i always play in colorblind mod in some games. But with that in wow i cant change the color from the mechanics, npcs only the ui. But what can i say maybe they never played their own game so who cares. I hope sometimes they will realise that this is a problem for some people.
I have never played FF14 but what at least there you clearly see the mechanics. i dont like that flashy stlye but if it works, it works!
Try to play without dbm or bigwigs hard to find the pool you need to stand in or whatever. I know this game is designed around dbm. It must be the only reason why they are doing this.
Sure the art team have used Colour Theory and choose to use colours that are complimentary to each and the zone to help set the mood.
But there is one thing for sure, never in my entire time playing WoW have not been able to tell the difference between a good spell and a bad spell. It’s just clear.
I’m not even colour blind but I have a really hard time telling which direction those casters in de other side are going to shoot, the spell that throws people off. I’m probably not the only one.
I suppose that is the challenge of that particular spell. You have to actually look at what direction its going in.
Funnily enough, I was looking at the colour scheme in this dungeon the other day and was thinking about how clever it was that they put the Purple spell in the areas with the purple background.
To be true i can see all spells in shadowlands
but the one that is the most problematic even for me is the one in OTHER SIDE as the onori pointed out
that one is really TRICKY to see man
I kinda have to agree to a certain level with OP they could change some colors for deadly effects or at least make them visible with different structures then the surface. Sometime it is like a light show in some fight (in just one color). But ye we have addons to help us so not so much of a problem in WoW!
I suffer from multiple conditions, so I can tell you that OP is actually correct and it´s a huge problem. I didn´t play WoW for a while and when I came back in Legion I honestly had no idea what spells were beneficial and harmful to me. DBM and the addon that screams when you stand in stuff was basically obligatory for me to be able to play the game, until I learned to distinguish. Now I can mostly tell the difference though.
OP also makes a great point about some of the zones in the post, and that people can´t accept the criticism is ludicrous. Yes, it´s perfectly fine for zones to have themes, but the theme of Maldraxxus and it´s dungeons is aesthetically ugly as heck and even worse just terribly dull… (Like the Maw). Everything being green would also easily obviously cause problems for newer players or other players with disabilities. Same goes for the first raid tier and ugly vampire zone. Honestly the zones in this expansion are just atrocious, and the art team were not able to save whoever came up with the colour themes for each zone, and they were not able to make aesthetically pleasing models in WoWs cartoon universe out of the Vampire city theme they were going for, or the angle smurf theme (in the cinematics they are gorgeous, so they clearly had a plan).
Generally I just want to make clear to everyone in this thread that this expansion was very ugly, dull and drab and if you disagree you are probably the sort of person who likes Ralph Lauren T-shirts with big horses on them. Of course it isn´t your fault, some people also have awful sense of taste when it comes to food, such is life.
The BfDA raid in BFA was an excellent example of a theme done well which also had lots of different colors (theme being jungle temple theme). Same goes for Suramar and the raid it had.
Hopefully the dragon expansion upcoming will be better, and won´t just be TEAL DRAGON ZONE, every dragon, the zone and every spell is teal, and then something like PURPLE DRAGON ZONE, every dragon, the zone and every spell is purple.
As one of the guys in here said , you can feel which spell/cast is bad or good or whatever it is. Just play this game for some years and you get used to it. You should able to addapt if you are brain-capable to play this game in general. Its so ez to addapt to it.
PS: The Paladins Bubble in BGs is the most stupid/hard thing to detect... It should be visible all over the enemy players name when he are “bubbled”…
Paladins have so much buffs and shets… you cant see ez the bubble thing in their buff row. Nor hunterds Turtle shet.
Wow have got very bad at sign posting effects. Worst for me was when I was a Venthyr, you stick down Ashen Hallow in Sanguine Depths and then you struggle to see all the red effects that are going on.
Uneven ground is another one that suffers badly. You can’t tell if something is under you on a hill, stairs etc.
