Did they remove the ability to put them in void storage? All the posts in the forum talk about it but the game doesn’t allow me to put them in, same with heart of azeroth
It was never been possible.
Only Legion legendaries can go there is you want some free space. 
Void storage is so pointless atm, I wish we could put more stuff in it.

I don’t get the point of Void Storage tbh. When I first came to the game I assumed it was an Account-wide bank for all your characters to share, like Legacy Storage in SWTOR, which was tge first MMO I played seriously. Imagine my surprise and disappointment when I learned Void Storage is pointless and the only way to share storage space between characters is to go through the hassle of setting up a guild for all your alts…
Void storage was for you to place stuff there to die and never touch again for the rest of wow story.

It was useful for storing tmog before the appearance wardrobe was a thing.
Before item collection you had to save every transmogg you wanted to transmogg on your character at all times.
You could not vendor/delete any thing.
This is what void storage was for.
Nowdays with item collection where you unlock appearences and can then delete the item.
It has become very pointless.
