VPN and WoW

Hello,

I have a question / problem that I don’t understand.

I have a VPN (Astrill) and when it is installed (not turned on!) I get instant disconnect in the login screen.
As soon as I deinstall the VPN I can connect normally.
This only happens with WoW, e.g. not with Diablo 2:R or anything else.

I heard you cannot play WoW with a VPN, which is fine because I am not even trying to but what could cause this problem?
Anyone any idea?

Hi there Rudar!

As much as we understand how they can be practical, I’m afraid we do not give support to connecting to our games through VPNs, as they’re too often used by exploitative players to mask their steps and they can cause innocent players to receive undeserved penalties because of false positives.

We can only suggest that if the game works correct when the VPN is uninstalled, it’s better to keep it uninstalled when you want to play WoW. Of course, if the probles continue when the VPN is not installed at all, let us know - we’ll be here for you.

well I am not connecting the vpn, not even opening the app, yet wow just disconnects me.
It is kinda annoying to always install and deinstall the app, that is why I ask what could cause this.

Although your not connected to the VPN, i wonder if the software is still running in the background as a task or in the system tray? I don’t know how wow detects and checks for such software but just having it running as a task, regardless of if your actually connected to the VPN or not might be enough for WoW to detect it and disconnect you. You might be able to just end the task or close the software form an icon in the system tray, rather than having to install/uninstall it everytime.

It’s merely just a thought/suggestion though as i don’t use it myself.

good hint, I will try it.
I think it may have to do something that the vpn changes some adapter settings which WoW detects or something. Unfortunately I don’t know enough about this stuff

thanks for the suggestion though
