The sky above Icecrown breaking into that gigantic portal to the Shadowlands was the big flashy intro to the expansion, but what purpose did that actually serve?
As far as I can tell, all it did was alert us to the BS going on in the Shadowlands, and gave us a way to travel there. It didn’t seem to actually advance the Jailer’s plans in any way.
Meanwhile, had Sylvanas just kept a low profile, we never would have gone to the SL, allowing the Jailer to win completely unopposed.
Am I missing something there?
I think it was more for dramatic effect to be honest. I mean they thought everyone would think that Sylvanas would put on that helm but instead she breaks it. Shock value and all that, they’ve been doing that since the burning of Teldrassil I think. Quite honestly considering the helm opened a way for players to travel to the Shadowlands without actually croaking, I’d say it really messed up the Jailer’s plans.
Actually this reminded me of a video by Captain Grim.
I think the Jailer needed a way to find a soul that will be perfect, a mortal to forge him in to a weapon
And like Arthas did before, he lured the Heroes in to his realm hoping one of them will be suitable… originally thats why he ordered the mass kidnapping, and for that he needed a Portal. It was a dumb luck Anduin was the perfect candidate, but he not realised untill the heroes came to save the leaders… (and thats why he kept them alive, not murdered on the spot, they were the bait for us, and Bolvar confirmed, yep, they are alive, so lets go team!)
I’m pretty sure he does not care about one planet, unless I’m missing something, but isn’t he going to undo reality? Like everything, including Azeroth?
I haven’t followed so closely to know the jailers intentions. I thought he wanted to reclaim the Shadowlands and that he was betrayed by the others (Elune, Winter Queen, Primus)
As for Azeroth, she’s the main plot of WoW, the special Titan who I assume will eventually be our savior from I guess the void.
As far as I can tell, people who never read can never tell much:
Helm of Domination was crafted in Torghast by the Runecarver who was forced against his will to do so by the Jailer. Jailer intended to use the helm and Frostmourne to establish his influence on Azeroth, thereby allowing himself to claim his “final prize”, a secert that the First Ones sought to hide.
First Ones are godlike beings who created the cosmic realms and shaped the cosmos. They created Shadowlands and Oribos and Maldraxus.
Better question is what is Sylvanas aiming for? What’s her end game? If this info does not explain to you why sky got broken…I feel sorry for you.
The Jailer relied on pawns to do his bidding in the past. When that failed, he knew he’d have to go to Azeroth personally once he regained his power. The veil had to be broken for him to pass through.
Sylvana lost her position as warchief , she can’t do anything at this point that doesn’t look plot armour.
So she used her plot armour anyway to kill the lich king, release the scourge so they kill more people to bring more souls to the maw.
It opens the portal but at this point it doesn’t matter because if player enters the maw they would go into a trap, this is where our plot armour kicks in and for some reason we have a machine that Teleport us back to safety for no reason.
Because the Jailer needed a mortal to wield a Mournblade to steal Sygils to open portal to the Sepulcher. Or something like that. The portal was a means of getting mortals to SL so Jailer could find one he needs (which turned out to be Anduin)
Of course this begs the question of why Sylvanas herself couldn’t wield the Mournblade. Why the need for another person? The answer is - we don have a clue
It was stated somewhere, though I forget if this was in game or elsewhere, that it was Anduin because he held all the virtuous traits that would get him an audience with the Archon and thus close enough to take her sigil. Him being able to call on the Light in the maw demonstrated that to the Jailer.
Of course, I have always found this to be rubbish. On my main Paladin, what am I using in the maw? Traffic lights? And how on Azeroth am I not the one he needs? I am found worthy of all 4 covenants!
Suppose the point was to open a gateway between Shadowlands and Azeroth so that the Jailor could also conquer the lands of the living (and he has hinted at killing the world soul of Azeroth multiple times throughout the story). Dunno what the mechanics are with the helm breaking and opening the gateway, nor do I understand why they opened it now opposed to when they have the Shadowlands under their control, since that way the champions wouldn’t be able to meddle (and neither would they know what’s even going on).
That being said, they did also kidnap the leaders of Azeroth and I doubt they could’ve done this prior… Still, that can’t be the end-reason for doing that. Or it can, but it just doesn’t make sense in that case.
To release the Scourge army on us.
This killed lots of civilians sending them to the Maw.
It also caused a big distraction letting them Kidnap Jaina (who forgot to portal away or something), Thrall (who can’t fight unless he has the perfect weapon), Anduin (where were his guards?) etc.
