War Mode Toggle Restrictions Loosened in Patch 8.1

Ey, you’ll be able to turn off WM while in any rested area soon! Assuming the change ends up going live in 8.1.

I won’t be doing it myself - but if you are getting overly ganked while trying to solo WM, you’ll be able to opt out more easily and finish your wq. That should feel less clunky for affected players, that are focused on solo WM and don’t like grouping up.

So we have this change, plus the 30% extra bonus, wonder what else Blizz will do? If anything - are more changes needed? I guess we need to see what the extra bonus and opt out changes achieve in 8.1 first. Seems like they are doing changes that are easy for them (fair enough), nothing that fundamentally changes WM or the WoW interface. If that’s the case, what else could be changed, that is not a major change to the system?

Very bad change…
WM will be totally empty now.

So they’re basically removing the mechanics of a pvp server now and all the possible inconveniences and risks attached to it.

I don’t like it. Warmode is supposed to feel at least a TINY bit dangerous and adding these convient exit points takes that away. Make the toggle work in Dazar’alor and Boralos, but please not in every single little resting area across Zandalar and Kul Tiras.

Yup, there’s a chance the extra toggling will have a negative effect. Any change can potentially cause a problem. But on the other hand, there’s a chance that more will be encouraged to turn on WM. In combination with the extra bonus change, it could be good for WM, even if the changes seem strange to players that don’t feel they personally need them. I don’t see them as necessary for me, but for affected players, it could make WM something they want to take part in.

  • I suspect those that mostly WPvP will not notice a difference.
  • Those that mainly wq and are frustrated by imbalance, might feel a bit better.
  • Those that wq, are frustrated by imbalance but refuse solutions, will still complain.

It’ll be interesting to see the effect of these changes in a couple of days. At least they can’t toggle it off at a wq for example. However, players can already phase out with LFG any time. And it’s good that they still have to go to SW/Org to enable it.

For other possible changes, there are lots of ideas floating around in the forum… but what changes are;

  1. easy for Blizz to make,
  2. will not cause problems for WPvPers, and
  3. will actually correct the perceived faction imbalance issue.

Imbalance at wqs is the main complaint, and that’s mainly caused by LFG groups and player distribution in a zone. Even if more Alliance take part in WM because of these changes, faction imbalance at wqs for example may not be affected. You could have perfect 50/50 balance in a zone, but 10 to 1 imbalance at a wq. How to fix that without constant phasing? I would hate more phasing, it’s bad for WPvP. Does it even need fixed? In my opinion it’s fine as is. But there are two types of WM player, those that like WM as is, and those that want to WM but dislike WM as is. How to make both happy?

It’s tough to come up with workable ideas that meet the above requirements!

I don’t think this is a good idea. I think its likely that Alliance will opt out even faster now, skewing balance even further, and in a less predictable fashion.
How their WM logic will react to this new variable is anybodies guess.

The 30% bonus will be inconsequential, but this change seems rather dangerous.

Since players can already exit difficult situations by phasing out, the toggling off at a rest area seems less of an issue than that. Soon find out! But ye, neither change will make it easier for those having troubles. To me, it’s the making it easier changes that would be potentially dangerous.

I don’t like this idea at all. It’s just pointless, and could potentially cut WM population.

At almost every Flight Point (except 2) there is an innkeeper. And all innkeepers have a little zone around them that lets you rest/change talents, and now it would also let you turn WM off. So in all fights near FP players could be able to just jump/blink to innkeeper and bye bye frag while you fighting guards etc.

Also, bounty. Now players can just get close to innkeeper, turn WM off and no bounty anymore. Like it’s not enough to have all other abusable systems and bugs to drop it.

And since it’ll give ability to only turn WM off, and to turn it ON players still need to go to Org/SW - why would anyone bother to turn it back on, if they already got to the point of turning it off.

The only worse change could have been to give ability to turn WM ON and off at any rest zone. I hope this never happens, and this “turn off” change won’t make it to live.

Instead of improving War Mode systems and how rewarding it is for players, Blizzard makes it easy to switch if off. Feels like a nerf, and not a change for the better.

Edit. From Patch notes:

This is bad:

  • War Mode can now be disabled in any rested area. It can still only be enabled in Stormwind or Orgrimmar.

This is meh, ok:

  • The reward bonuses from War Mode can now scale above 10% when a faction was outnumbered over the course of the preceding week, up to a maximum of 30% additional quest rewards and experience.

This is VERY GOOD! :

  • In War Mode, an outnumbered faction now has access to a weekly quest to slay 25 level 120 players of the opposing faction, rewarding a piece of item level 370 Arathi Warfront gear and 1000 Artifact Power.

Blizzard pls make more changes like this, and not the other two.

This change is absolute garbage. What is the point of being on a “pvp server” when you can opt out of pvp basically anytime you want? This is world of WARcraft, not world of carebearcraft.

Yeah this is way better than the other two. I didn’t even see it.

I wonder if you can only turn off when not in combat? I think this is the least restriction it should have…

Yeah, that’s lame. I’m happy to have just finished all (for me) relevant wpvp-achievements…

Yeah, it should be.
But Invisibility / Vanish / Shadowmeld -like abilities make you drop combat, bit harder but still abusable.

It could get a 5 min cooldown, like the pvp-toggle.

5 min CD that restarts every time you drop combat - yeah, it would fix immediate droppers. But nothing else, unfortunately.

Anyway, I’m a bit salty from yesterday’s bounty hunting. 1 dropped bounty by swimming to the edge of Stormsong. 2 others just went off, ether by logging off or accepting a queue to Arena/BG/whatever.

I see less and less bounties every day, and most of them are not claimed but dropped by abusing different systems and bugs - system notice, someone got a bounty, opened map, took flight… nope they’ve dropped it. So sad and lame.

And this change doesn’t look like it will improve War Mode for those who likes it. More like it’s going to nerf it.

This better not make it through absolute BS if I’m ganking and horde runs off and toggles it off. Raiding zuldazar and horde just toggle it straight off l. Theyll start fixing warmode to then kill it off again with this. Typical blizz though I guess

Well I’ve got to say, it worked out way better than I expected.
Last night was insane. Lots of Alliance in WM, Horde scattering in every direction.
To finally see Alliance in good spirits after such a long depression was glorious.
I really hope it continues like this.

Most Horde I encountered were all in 1 camp attitude wise, acting like a little baby when Alliance wasn’t heavily outnumbered anymore. Refusing to fight, to engage in and solely run away. Where is their Lok’tar o’gar, victory or death? Oh now they actually have to fight for their bonus instead of dogpilling the few Alliance left and suddenly WM sucks. Although a warrior attacked me 3 times and floored him 3 times it showed he had respect but most simply are in there for said bonus. The text in the quest also was right that outnumbering is old-age Horde tactic, they started raid ganking. We start a raid (smaller than theirs) and own them and suddenly they summon 50 more people in… Later one they split so we took revenge and Horde ran away instead of figthing. Yeah on my DH with help of a warrior we kept the escape route under control. Suddenly mr. 163k hp frost mage wasn’t so tough anymore, ran the moment he saw they were pushed back and thought we would let him.

We didn’t start as raid though, Horde pushed us we were soloers or small groups engaging them on our own and they reacted the only way they always do. Create large raid groups… It was fun though. Most fun I had in months in WM.

Wish it could be turned on at any rest area as well. I don’t like having to run to Orgrimmar just to be able to enable killing filthy alliance weaklings.

I was cheering when I saw we didn’t have to go to any either SW or Org to turn it on/off… I didn’t read the part where I only can turn it off at a resting area…

I hope they’ll change it to turn on/off at the next patch.

Why did you turn it off then?

Well sometimes I want to RP and most people RP out of WM.
