War Within Inventory management question

For as long as we have had the option to set what goes in which bags, Ive used one for gear, one for consumes. One for stuff I always carry, which is set to be ignored for cleanup and sorting.

And the backpack has always been the last to fill up. So as long as I kept my backpack clear, any item that went into my inventory, that wasnt either gear or consumable, would end up in the backpack.
So I could access it quick and easy with just pressing B, and not having to open all my bags.
But now the sorting fills up the backpack first, which is driving me crazy. Is there a way to fix this without the use of addons and the like? And if not, which addon might help me sort this out, preferably without changing anything else?

Not sure if basic WoW options allows you to do what you want but I use an addon called BetterBags.

It might take some getting used to for you but you can sort custum categories etc, I love it personally.

BetterBags or Baganator.

I use Baganator myself, a great replacement to the perpetually dead Bagnon.
