Warcraft is crashing my PC

Even after disabling all addons, installing drivers updates …etc.

EDIT : Retail and Classic clients.

it sucks, but i assume its the usual bugs that follows a new wow patch, it usually resolves itself in a week or two.

If his PC crashes then it is most likely not the fault of WoW itself.
Also he probably should post his hardware specs if he wants help.

Crashes only on wow, so it’s wow.

I am getting the same, just random reboot of the computer after playing for a few mins. Only since last patch. Running AMD - CPU 5950x and GPU 6900xt, 32GB ram

I was playing the whole day yesterday without any problems. Today when I logged on there was a small update and now my PC keeps on crashing too and the short periods I’m in game my CPU temp is constantly hovering between 90c-95c (normally between 60c-70c) and my fans are going crazy.

WoW is very memory sensitive, so if something is up with your RAM or unstable OC, it will crash most likely.

What CPU? Your cooling should always be sufficient even at 100% load, if not, then it’s not good enough.
Also WoW’s engine does barely make use of the many cpu threads of modern CPUs and thus will never cause high CPU temps if your hardware is properly cooled and working as intended
It could be the bnet launcher causing the high CPU load though.
Is your game fully downloaded? Or are you patching any other bnet game?

Intel(R) Core™ i7-9750H CPU @ 2.60GHz 2.59 GHz & RTX 2060 (laptop).

There was just another small update in wow and also a new update to the 2060 released today and now everything is working properly again.

Crashes also on classic, so not a patch problem

are you using any osd to see fps? like riva tuner ,msi afterburner etc? if yes try with the fps counter disabled.

if its because of that u need wait for riva tuner/masu afterburner or wow update.

No, nothing, I disabled even the anitvirus.

I’ll check and see later with this small patch.

EDIT :

YEah, I’ve been playing for 1 hour, looks like it got fixed.

My PC is also running a lot hotter in wow lately than it used to. It changed just a few days ago, whereas before it only used to get really hot in Shadowlands zones like Ardenvald. Even in old expansion content (vanilla, tbc, wrath, cata) my fans are revving up. I turned antialiasing to “none” and my PC near immediately went 6-7 degrees cooler.

Still running an i7-6700k, but like I mentioned it’s been fine till now  Do you think the game will run more optimized in a few weeks, or can I expect trouble in DF?

Set compute effects to low, does make a huge difference especially in the Ardenweald hub.

Well, not spending much time in Ardenwald, but it’s worth noting for DF. Thanks  What especially does compute effects affect in this instance, is it the weather?

Anyway, I still can’t find any reason why my PC runs almost 10 degrees hotter after the latest updates, even in old content. I hope they do some fixing…

Compute effects affect the fog and volumetrics resolution… but you probably won’t even notice a difference while playing the game

This is all i need to know to realize what is going on cos if had the same, currently with AMD gpu drivers MPO is broken as well as vsync and enchanced sync with MPO disabled can also cause freezes.
Best way if learned to not have freezes on newest drivers is globally force off vsync with MPO disabled dont bother with MPO enabled it will blackscreen under 3 minutes, and leave enchanced sync off.
alternatively you can leave MPO on try force vsync globally on while leaving off enchanced sync.

Currently i experience least amount of problems either on 22.5.1 with vsync off in game and amd control panel with no changes made to MPO, or 22.11.1 with MPO disabled and vsync globally forced off and no enchanced sync.

Vsync is whats causing weird resize glitches as well if on even if left at aplication level

I don’t know what AMD is doing with their gpu drivers but its very broken especially since windows 11 came out, but these issues probably exist on windows 10 21h2 and 22h2 as well

If you have nvidia gpu and also experience freezes try leaving vsync off in game and see if this resolves freezes, vsync may be broken inside windows currently, would explain why AMD is having issues now.

I believe about 2 years ago Nvidia had issues with MPO as well and now AMD is going thru the same issues except AMD is still not realizing what is going on.

This fix works for AMD as well especially for blackscreens

My computer in general has been crashing constantly since I started playing WoW again this month. My computer has not crashed in years so it’s kind of weird that it happens all the time now that I’m playing WoW again.

It should be noted that as a general rule, applications (including games) cannot actually crash a computer on their own. They can obviously crash themselves, but the operating system would keep working just fine - unless the gamecrash is just a symptom of a deeper-rooted issue (e.g. a hardware problem) that is brought to the surface by some function the game happens to tap into.

A lot of hardware problems are also at least indirectly linked to temperature/load of the device, and games can certainly influence matters on that level. As an example, while they on their own cannot overheat a CPU/GPU they can certainly push it to a level where the cooling system needs to properly kick in to do its job, and if that doesn’t happen things often go south rather rapidly. As mentioned earlier in this thread WoW is also very precise when it comes to memory usage, so any conflicts on that level (even minor ones) would almost certainly be immediately flushed to the surface (the quite common #132-crash in WoW is often linked to memory issues).

@Proteus: If your computer is constantly crashing in general, then that is definitely not something WoW can cause - a program just being installed on a harddrive has absolutely no way of influencing anything, apart from how much space is left on said harddrive. There unfortunately must be something else that is going on there, and having a local technician take a look at the computer may be your best bet there.

Have you checked the temperatures of your CPU and GPU under load?
Have you done a memcheck?
Did you install any windows updates or drivers recently?
Are you overclocking your RAM/CPU?

Yes, but this time, it was clear that wow was the one crashing my PC and was fixed after a small update.
