I read Day of the Dragon, The Last Guardian and Lord of the Clans novels from the series. They weren’t linked to each other in any way, no events or no characters.

Novels are just telling a story happened in game. Just a wild guess, some books may be connected to another one but not all of them are connected to each other. So if you are to learn about Arhas’ story you can read the books about him or death knights. Same for dragons, horde or burning legion.

I guess warcraft books are kinda like warhammer novels, they don’t have direct connection to each other but all are linked to main story.

Depends on what You want. If you just like certain characters or stories, and would like to know more about them, then reading corresponding novels like Arthas or Illidan would be the best way to do it. But if You are interested in the world and it’s history, then I’d say that War of The Ancients play such a pivotal role in Warcraft universe, that I’d say it’s best to start with WotA trilogy.

These are the books listed in order.

While commuting I listened to this in my car: https://open.spotify.com/show/7mIfF4RXkZtvFHc5fWX5uT?si=655806e34e784f79 (the official Blizzard WoW: Audio Drama)
There I was, massive traffic jam and the podcast blasting through it, pulling me into Azeroth. Made that trip so much more enjoyable.
Wish they would make more books into this format too.

Rise of the Horde, The Last Guardian, Tides of Darkness and Beyond the Dark Portal are all linked to each other. As far as I know, almost every book is a sequel to a former book at least for the main story. Characters are just the window used for us readers to experience the story.

Edit: And before someone asks, yes the first 4 books are linked. Rise of the Horde has Medivh at the End which ties into The Last Guardian. The Last Guardian has Kadghar who also appears in the following 2 books Tides of Darkness and Beyond the Dark Portal. Anduin Lothar appears in the Last Guardian and Tides of Darkness book, also a linked character. Turalyon and Alleria appear in Tides of Darkness and alongside Kadghar in Beyond the Dark Portal. So, in a way all of the first 4 books are linked directly by 1 or more characters individually.

i read the one named Sylvanas and it was pretty good.

That’s Christie Golden for you. She wrote not a single bad book yet from the ones I read.

She even gave me some advice on which books she recommends for learning story telling on Twitter. Still have to order them tho (since I am constantly broke :P)

Edit: Here, pulled the content of her tweet as a quote, in case someone wants to know the specific books:

"I’m a big fan of “The Writer’s Journey” by Christopher Vogler. He uses Campbell’s Hero’s Journey and show how it’s been used in books and movies. Not a formula, but a toybox of great ideas! Also love Stephen King’s “On Writing.” "

The novels aren’t really connected to one another (except Day/Night of the Dragon and the WotA trilogy). Usually the continuity pattern is Novel->Game->Novel->Game->etc.

Read whatever you want.

Sure go for it, if you can call shadowlands lore or story.

If you want Arthas, I recommend the Rise of the Lich King book.

That’s the only one I’ve read, unless you count the short stories.
