Warforging, Titanforging and meeting the community half way

For a long time now there has been a big split between those who do and don’t want forms of Warforging in the game, those that like it is for the perk of just suddenly having a powerful piece of gear, Those that do not is because they feel it makes higher tiers of game play less enticing or the chance to get the perfect item is too low.

How about introducing a currency to dungeons etc that will allow item upgrade similarly to how Valor used to?

For example you could say 250 currency to upgrade your standard item to Warforged, then another 250 to upgrade to Titanforged with 100 to add a socket.

As later tiers of content come out, the amount of currency needed could increase for the current content but so will the amount of currency you get from doing random dungeons, raids, etc in line with the new gear, deterring players from hording lots of currency for future content and allowing newer players / alts to gear up quicker by upgrading their lesser ilvl gear quicker with the new patches increased rate of currency.

Tl;Dr: what are your thoughts on adding a currency to upgrade gear to warforged

edit: and for those who want to put all of the time their character to work towards the highest ilvl best in slot are able to do so in a viable way

There’s something about TF and WF though. Specially as you are gearing up it’s a fun mechanic.

However its implementation in the later game leaves much to be desired as you can’t FARM something.

Example, on my other main (I main two tanks) a BDK I have a TF 410 2H from SoB. I’d want to change it for the KR one, of course, but even if I farmed KR I’ll be looking at a very uphill battle.

Solution? Dunno. Perhaps a currency. Perhaps the higher the key they higher the chance for a TF. A combination. Tokens to upgrade an item pre-drop (kinda a slot machine). Something, really.

I agree that TF and WF can be a thrill when it happens and i know that there are a lot of people who want it to stay, its just that currently it does feel like its at the expense of the very end game / the ability to farm those best in slot items.

For me the idea of knowing about x weapon that drop in that one dungeon is the best thing my DK will be able to swing around was what made some of the older xpacs fun. In recent years ive barely stepped into a dungeon since there feels like a lack of incentive to do so, I dont have anything in particular i can aim for in any one place, the stats, warforing and possible sockets make everything so RNG heavy that it ends up just feeling like gear is gear and there is nothing to hope for off of any particular boss. it doesnt matter where it comes from, if its a ilvl upgrade then its an ilvl upgrade and an item randomly titanforging to 400 is always going to win over the not even warforged what would otherwise be best in slot, while if I /could/ upgrade the ‘would be’ best in slot then id still be thrilled to pick up the lesser best in slot item to i could eventually upgrade that to 400 to replace whatever i currently had.

Just bring tbc, wotlk, cata or mop style gearing back. Nothing felt better than getting that piece that you know you will not replace until next expansion. Bis is not really bis anymore unless it titanforges the highest it can and has a socket.

Didn’t mention classic because it’s coming.

any ETA when titanforging and warforging is getting removed?

He said last week it is not going to be.

Well, if you want to satisfy both parties you need to introduce an alternative not a replacement and from what I understood the OP he/she propose to replace WF and TF with currency but in my opinion a better way is to introduce what the OP suggested as an optional way to upgrade the gear.

So say you do a dungeon you got a WF proc, then you can upgrade it to TF through currency, say you didn’t get a proc you can still upgrade it to WF and TF again through currency, the problem here is that eventually all your gear will be decked out with TF gear that I’m guessing goes against the design of the feature so to make it work they would have to limit the amount of slots that you can upgrade, therefor, in my opinion the only slots that should be upgradable are weapons, rings and trinkets because these are the slots that when you don’t have a proc you tend to get most disappointed with so having a currency that you can earn and improve these slots would be really great.

Another way to do it is say you got a weapon, the next time you do the instance, you have a higher chance for the same weapon to drop with a higher item level or maybe a currency that allows you to upgrade the weapon? this can work too.

One of the issues with WF and TF is when instead of an item level increase you get an extra socket or indestructible, sometimes you get a combination but this should probably be discussed in another post.

A QnA already explained why this is not feasible beyond the final tier for which they will consider it. To put it simply anyone who normal raids, pushes a few bosses then upgrades those pieces would find themselves with geared at the ilvl where the next tier does not drop upgrades till the currency is used on it at their ideal level. Same can be said about Heroic raiders doing the first few mythic bosses. You create a situation where ilvl between tiers would have to be raised by another 15 ilvls just to not disrupt progression, which wouldn’t make the ilvl climb even worse.

It’s already close to that.
Normal gear is acquirable by emissaries which are faceroll content, and by doing easy m+ with the weekly cache, wf and weekly quest, you can easy be heroic level geared without seeing at all the raid.
Same for the tier up, between +10ilvl from the weekly cache and wf/tf you can be close to mythic level gear by doing very little or none of it.
This in terms of pure overall ilvl, so blizz talking of a token as something that disrupt progression is bs.

Reality is that a token for upgrades will be much less painful than tf something you won’t us, but if i can handpick upgrades, my need to rerun dungeons and raid to gear us is lower.
Blizz is saying that this is to give as excitment for a possible upgrade, truth is that is for us to keep grinding in the hope of an upgrade.

ill ask that question until we get the answer we need and want :stuck_out_tongue:

sorry if i wasnt clear, I was suggesting to keep WF/TF in the game as it is, but as well as that to have the option to grind out a currency to upgrade non-wargorged into warforged etc

TBH I’m disappointed that Blizzard isn’t considering the removal of Titanforging.

I just think it’s a step to far, meeting the community in the middle would be removing titanforging but keeping warforging. Still get a wee bonus chance on drops but not to the extend titanforging does.(unpopular opinion)

gem slots should go back to being baseline on gear again, or some blacksmithing tool we can buy to add 1-3 gem slots to gear…because frankly profs are being ignored to the point it’s almost game breaking.

I don’t think we should be able to purchase with any currency warforge/titanforge, but we could use existing currency like breath of bwon to add indestructible or leech/avoidance to items…that would be cool, but not mandatory.

The issue with buying wf/tf with a currency is it then becomes mandatory to have, meaning yet more grinding of yet another resource or use an existing resource like tidalcores. By doing this you run the risk of burning out players or lose players outright that simply don’t have or want to invest that much time into a game.
Which is why I suggested alternative stats instead…also because I find tf…a royal pain in the rear.
If I get something and it wf’s I think yeah ok a nice wee bonus, but damn it didn’t tf so it’s pretty much trash. if I get something and it’s stock…I just think meh trash loot. That’s my current thinking already.

An example of the problem of Titanforging, around October time I did a TOS +10 mythic run, I got a titanforged belt capped at 395, I finally replaced it yesterday with the same belt but +5 ilvl from season 2, I basically sat on a bis belt for the better part of 6 months, sure I got other belts at 400 and 410 but stats were poo so the trade off wasn’t worth it. But that one belt I got months ago was just hanging around, the same happened with legs, I got titanforged legs 385 and I didn’t get better legs until March another 6-7 months for those.

It’s a problem that Warforging doesn’t have, I drop those items quite regularly and rarely sit on one for that long.
