I am deciding on maliny a new main and i can’t decide between these 2. I dont need a current meta answer, i would like a long term viability or overall efectiveness as long as i am not a fotm fan.
I like them both, maybe a lock a bit more cause the visuals and emo theme.
I will be only focusing on raiding and sometimes battlegrounds.
I should also mention, that as warlock i like the destro the most, not a big fan of demo and i really hate affli.

I was going to say warlock but then you said you dont care for demonology, which is clearly the best spec lol
But pick the one you enjoy the most.

That depends: How do you like other hunter specs? Do you like more than a single one, compared to your warlock?
Out of the two I would personally lean towards warlock, because you have unique utilities no other class can bring, and thus a warlock is always welcome in raids: Soulstone, Summon portal, Healthstone and gateways.
Hunters are much better suited for mechanic handling in raids compared to warlocks, so if you do choose to decide on playing hunter be prepared that people will assign you to handle specific boss mechanics during the fight. If you do like atleast 2 or even all three of the hunter specs then it may be better if you pick hunter instead.
The reason for that is because the advantage of pure DPS classes is that one of their spec is always a decent to good performer in raids (minus some exceptions, like how mages were during Battle of Dazar’alor in BFA) so if the spec you play ends up being on the lower end you can freely swap over to the other two.
With warlocks if you only play destro when destro is going to perform worse out of all three then you may encounter issues if you try to pug.
It also really depends on what level of raiding you are aiming for. If your goal is just heroic and ahead of the curve then just choose whichever class you prefer more (warlock in your case I feel).
Do you want to be more mobile? hunter. Do you like dot’s? or long ramp up time where you shine mostly on bosses (with two warlock specs) imo hunter feels the best overall and this comes from someone that mained warlock for 8 years.
both are great but demo/affliction warlock can feel awful to play when stuff dies to fast.
This is one of those question you can only really fill in for yourself to be honest with you…
But having said that I think I cangive you some tips or sentences that should make you start thinking what you might like more…if you like summoning demons more and using the power of the fell energy’s more then use a warlock.
If you like shooting people from afar and sending your animals that fight for you out to rip your enemy’s to shreds then play hunter…
