So I am pretty settled on playing Lock in tbc. I know that SL/SL seems to dominate arena. Is SL/SL viable in hcs too or not really? Is there an all round spec that is more suited to all content?
No.
Pretty much the only useful thing SL/SL is able to do in hcs, is Spam SoC. It lacks single target damage, it has no burst, and the DoT damage is not great compared to a PvE focused Affliction spec.
It has survivability, but that’s not really the job of a dps in heroics.
That’s not to say that it cannot work. You can do damage with it ofc, and the grp will likely finish the run, but it will be nowhere near the performance of an actual dps spec.
Define “suited to”.
Playable? Yes, there are several:
- A variation on the SM/Ruin spec can work well in both PvE and PvP
- Deep-Affliction works well in Raids and is playable in PvP, but hindered in 5man content if mobs die too quickly)
- Deep-Demonology with Felguard is very viable in PvE and can hold it’s own in PvP (you can always switch to the Felhunter if the dispell is required)
There are even people who try to make Deep Destro work in PvP (which I wouldn’t recommend, but it definitely works for some folks), which naturally also doesn’t do too bad in PvE.
