after some time leveling a warlock in tbc classic, i noticed the taunts are decreasing , and especialy fast above level 60.
to the point of zero agro at all, witch brings the problem of slightly stronger enemys always hitting me instead of pet.
i know i have to wait for pet to get agro, but no matter how long i wait , at lvl 62 ALL enemys almost always attack me after one or 2 dots , i hardly get one shadowbolt off, only on rare occasions it holds the agro…it just doesnt feel balanced…
i know i got a few levels to go, but atm its getting in the way of leveling progress…
i know its ‘‘classic’’ but why keep something in ,witch is clearly flawed
having trouble with just 1 of equal lvl because pet cant hold agro just feels too far off…
so far this is the 1st thing that realy feels out of place , in terms of my ‘‘classic’’ experience
so im hoping for a fix for somewhat better balanced agro…
When did you last go and buy a new book for your void walker? It might just be a bit weak for a few levels and then get a new level of its “taunt” (its not a true taunt though but just a boost to its agro and 395 extra threat for 5 sec wont be enough to keep the mob on it)
i have levelled many warlocks during classic and tbc down the years, the VW has never been able to hold aggro, you can get aggro off it by bandaging and nothing else!
as far i know i bought all upgrades there are, and after lvl 50 i always checked every levelup.
in my memory it wasnt this ‘bad’
it has no point in attacking more then 1 enemy and i dont have to try 2 + levels or they will all attack me, and with the fel armor, i get 2 shotted by randoms , they resist my pets taunts a lot as well too…
its warlock not 'wand’lock…
why this is not fixed with somewhat better balance feels wrong, its clearly unbalanced.
if i dont run i could get killed from randoms 5 lvl lower cause my pets just does not get the agro…
it was a known issue that has been fixed , why is the fix not for this version , thats what im wondering
Just gonna say that 395 threat is nothing I generate more from 3 auto attacks on my lvl 60 paladin (just logged in and checked) and you wouldnt have a auto attacking paladin at 60 be tanking for you. 395 threat is the lvl 60 version and sadly it seems there is no new version before lvl 70, if you are not playing demonology lock the voidwalker seems to turn rather useless and torment dosnt seem to scale with gear at all
The way I used to play with my warlock was to send the voidwalker on a mob and give it time to get threat, only using curse of agony. Then after a bit use corruption and then later shadowbolts (by that time you don’t care about threat any more because the mob will die soon).
Of course you do that on the side while actually fighting another mob with dots and fear.
Nowadays though, I just sacrifice the voidwalker and spam shadowbolts (demo/destro spec).
What kind of mobs are twoshotting you? Are you trying to solo elites with VW tanking? Basically for the warlock to solo elites: If it can’t be feared you simply don’t, unless it is one of those squishy elites that die from 3 shadowbolt crits.
PS: The voidwalker does not have a taunt. It’s basically a sunder armor kinda ability, except it doesn’t lower armor. What I mean is it only generates a bit of threat. Taunts are something different.
I recently killed some 62s in ZM at level 60, they went down quickly and my VW didn’t lose threat, are you sure your threat abilities are turned on and up to date, you get a new torment at 60. I’m also ending the fight with almost full health and mana.
You also have an emergency threat ability you can use if you do a few crits.
Effect Threat Value: 395
Looks like a taunt, it makes the mob attack the VW.
Effect Threat Value: 395 is not the same as Effect #1 Taunt
Value: 1
Effect #2 Apply Aura: Taunt
Value: 1
The taunt effect is forcing you to the top of the threat table for a short while and gives you a lot of extra threat (if you are not already on top) you can go from literaly last in threat to the top of the threat meter in less than 1 second. If you are already on top it just works by forcing the mob to attack you for the duration, thats how a true taunt works while torment nether have the forced attack effect or the put the pet on top of the threat meter effect.
You could of course not go 100% before it gets it’s second torment in. Like when in a dungeon in TBC you count to 3 or 5 before attacking the tanks target.
lmao pet agro is extremely broken in TBC. My felguard can’t even hold agro after I put immolate and corruption on an enemy not even gonna mention casting a shadow bolt or anything which is guaranteed to break agro. The taunt does absolutely nothing.
I let my void do 2 taunts and right before his 3rd i start attacking (noticed on the aggro meter that 2 to 3 taunts create enough aggro) Have no problems on the overaggro department at all, change your playstyle?
Playing lock since classic, now in tbc and in retail, have like 3 or so in retail, i love them
So. You are saying that if you just stand there and wand. Nothing else just wand you won’t take aggro off your vw? If that’s what you are saying then you are lying. It does around 1.5k tps tops.
wen i stepped in tbc classic i thought i would be getting the ‘‘optimized’’ version of it.
in terms of graphics , gameplay , talents etc…but things like taunt, fel armor , and in general spells just feels unbalanced.
fell armor isnt even a '‘armor’'cause it does nothing to my armor, its a tiny buff at max , and as far i can tell it does not generate health on any of my spells, and therefor useless outside raids or dungeon.
the taunt is just one of many flaws, but the only 1 thats realy standing out , everything else i can handle, but dying over and over again just because my pets cant keep agro , and im not up for 2 min wanding every mob, hehe
maybe my memory only remembers the optimized part and not what im experiencing atm.
You thought they would change things that much? You get the “optimized” version of tbc though the last patches talents and itemization.
“Surrounds the caster with fel energy, increasing the amount of health generated through spells and effects by 20% and increasing spell damage by up to 50. Only one type of Armor spell can be active on the Warlock at any time. Lasts 30 min.” Sounds like it dose exactly what its supposed to do have you tried using drain life?
But as we have demonstrated its not a true taunt but more something like sunder but even without the armor reduction effect ofc, its a threat generator not a threat snaping abillity thats the difference between a true taunt and that.
You might remember a later expansions version of things but from all the data bases I have found in tbc the voidwalkers “taunt” was never a taunt and fel armor only does what it says in its discription.
