Warlock vs Priest vs Mage?

Hello all. I wanna play a caster alt. I am trying to figure out which one to chose. Ocasionally I may do some M+ dungeons with a friend (low keys mostly) and most of the time I do the casual stuff, like Dailies, Weeklies, rares, etc.

Shadow Priest feels very weak. It has healing yes but before I even apply vampiric touch and pain, other classes kill the mobs… must be the most slow killer so far. I hate this ramp up, when others just charge in and smash mobs…

Mage is somewhat better at killing mobs faster than Spriest but it lacks self healing and general survivability (unless play frost and kite all the time).

Leaves Warlock. Felguard cannot tank difficult mobs, it dies easy… I have to play with voidwalker which hinders my dps as Demonology. If I change spec to Affliction, I have the same issues as Spriest… ramp up time.

None of them clicks to me and I have to chose one. I like playing for transmogs and I need a cloth class to play for cloth transmog. I have a bank tab full of cloth gear ready to be unlocked for transmog etc.

Maybe if I outgear the content would be much easier but since I am casual, I rarelly outgear the content a lot and it takes some time to get some good gear, mostly by weekly rewards!

What would you chose and why? How would you describe the pros and cons of each cloth caster?

Thanks in advance!

Hello !

I would go with arcane mage. It’s simple, not much ramp-up, and invisibility drops aggro in case of emergency.

even at 3 mobs cant “facetank” and arcane explosion… I take too much damage! Single target does have ramp up until you get to 3-4 arcane charges your damage is low :frowning:

Warrior, only warrior.

If you want to do fancy zappa and look like a Rockstar- shaman.
But if you want to be a God tier - warrior.

Mages are for kids and Goldshire mailbox dancer
Fel Magic is for non believers and rebellious teenagers who forget to take lunch to school
Priests are for elderly people

Go easy and prepare character for 9.2 ilvl bump.

The game works like this for most classes: you build your resources, then you do damage. Arcane Mage is not a spec that requires too much time to ramp up; I’d say that Demo Lock requires more time to ramp, weird that you haven’t point that out.

Anyways… you seem to don’t like any of those specs because low self healing, or you’re not willing/capable to kite; try NF boomie. Druid has self healing, convoke, trees, root, tons and tons of things you can use.

I would say fire mage or detruction warlock.

I play Demo and SP. Like said before: They do feel terrible on trash. Low burst, weak aoe too much ramp up and too many spells with cast time which should be instant (dogs and tyrant for ex for demo). Avoid at all cost.

It’s Destro and Fire that are the burstiest in damage, and they are quite powerful right now, but do take some time to learn, and for Fire, luck (because of crit chains).

Frost is an RNG fest, if you don’t get procs, so much for your ST damage. AoE is stationary so not good for constant kiting…

Arcane is mostly mana management with a burn/recovery rotation. If you played oldschool mages this is easy to learn.

No idea how Felguard always dies for you with Health Funnel at hand. Either way, 2 of the best talents on their rows are only usable by it (Soulstrike and Felstorm). I’m guessing you aren’t really experienced so give this a miss.

Aff is a better Spriest but again has a huge ramp. Its AoE is simpler at least but you’ll see it’s built for raiding.

So I’d say you try mage as Arc or Frost at first for ease, not the best but not the worst. Or roll a holy priest because we can never have enough healers

Start concodering a shaman. It’s the best class.

Warlock is one of the best classes for suvivability - especially destruction and demonology, with tanking pets, plus drain life.

I have always found to love Destruction’s playstyle more (although I did main an Affliction Warlock, in Legion ToS.)

Based on your thoughts about ramp up; I would definitely suggest Mage.

With blink, poly, invis etc. you will have an easier time to get around in general for casual stuff too.

This changed a bit after Legion though. I don’t why they did it but in WoD and Legion my VW or Felguard could basically facetank an elite mob or rare EASILY and would never lose aggro even if i had cooldowns up.

At the moment, even without cooldowns, 2 chaos bolts and VW loses the aggro. On top of that, let alone an elite mob, normal 2 or 3 mobs will actually kill VW / Felguard easily unless you are overgearing the world content.

At the moment; Warlock is actually one of the least tankiest caster in the game. Its one of the reasons why its representation in arena in very low.
