Warlords of Draenor

Hello guys

I just returned to the game and I want to finish everything in the WoD expansion as I never done this before. Do you guys have any tips for me where to start etc?

Are Apexis Crystal still worth collecting? How do I get a lot of garisson resources?

I dont really find a well written guide about this expansion

Garrison resources start off coming in a little bit slow, but it quickly ramps up as you complete bits of WoD content. You’ll be swimming in them quite soon if do much WoD things.

There are some collectible(s) worth getting with Apexis, the main one i remember is the Corrupted Dreadwing mount. I remember apexis stacked up quite fast, but most of that might have been from “max level” dailies and such, so your experience might be different, i can’t recall for sure.

If you want to live through Warlords, you should start by doing the Tanaan intro campaign, which is the beginning questline for WoD. It takes place in the eastern tip of Tanaan and i think you likely get the quest from the board in Orgrimmar or from the Adventure journal.

That little questline has a bunch of cinematics and afterwards you’ll end up in Frostfire Ridge (as Horde player). Here you’ll get another short questline to build your own Garrison.

After you build your basic Garrison there’s basicly 3 parts to the expansion:

(A) You’ll have a whole bunch of stuff to do inside (or relating to) the Garrison, building and upgrading buildings and such, enlisting followers/champions, stuff like that. Most of that stuff revolves around Garrison resources.

(B) You have the usual zones full of content, they’re largely standalone. So you can probably pick and choose which zones you want to level in. If you do plan to do them all then i’d recommend doing them in the original order (Frostfire->Gorgrond->Talador->Spires->Nagrand). Shadowmoon and Tanaan are “maxlevel” zones for after.
If you play Alliance then Shadowmoon and Frostfire switch places.

In most zones (Gorg/Tala/Spir/Nagr), after the first batch of quests, you’ll unlock an outpost where you can choose 1 of 2 possible buildings to build there (each giving you different perks and a zone-wide ability). It’s worth checking up on the difference before making your choice for those, as there are many rewards and achievements and such that are exclusive to one or the other outpost. You can always switch buildings later, but it’s worth not having to do that early on.
For completionists/collectors its worth getting the less interesting of the 2 buildings first, then farming all related rewards, and then switching to the more interesting building and doing the same there.

(C) Treasure hunting and such, for eventually unlocking Pathfinder (flying skill), if that is something you want. The bulk of treasures are easily spotted and along the natural paths while questing, but there are a bunch in many zones that are basicly puzzles, where you have to find the right route up a mountain and do a dodgy jump to reach them. I highly recommend getting an addon such as HandyNotes_DraenorTreasures so you can see treasures indicated on the map, there are hundreds).

If your main objective is XP (which it doesn’t sound like tbh), then you should know that Bonus Objectives in Draenor are generally the best source of it.
The general questlines overlap a lot with bonus objectives too, so questing+bonusobjectives is even better.
For those with flying skill (or with a friend offering taxi rides), collecting treasures is even faster, but without flying this becomes an ineffective source of XP (though its fun to try to get them all on foot).

If you’re thirsty for Garrison resources, know that there are quite a lot of treasures around most zones that give lots of it. Having a friend with flying fly you from GR-treasure to GR-treasure can get you boatloads very fast. By yourself on a ground mount a few of them will be a pain to get to to (so skip those), but otherwise its still a fast way to get GR. Killing rares also helps. GR also sell on the AH, it may not be expensive anymore, but tbh it’s likely still a waste of gold.

If you just wanna experience it all (or a lot of it), which is what it sounds like, then picking your initial Garrison buildings will have quite an impact. You can read up on them all, but if my memory isn’t failing me i think i’d likely recommend (for a beginner who wants access to much popular stuff):

  • Stables (unlocks quest lines for a bunch of mounts)
  • Baracks (for follower/mission related stuff)
  • Trading Post (unlocks an extra faction)
  • Inn aka Tavern (for extra followers and quests)
  • Main Garrison building (get it to level 3 asap)
  • Shipyard (located just outside Garrison, ties into Tanaan zone)
  • Storage (so you have a bank in your Garrison)
  • Pet Menagerie, Mines, Fishing shack, Farm (None of these have alternatives)
  • …and 2 more random small buildings of your choice (salvage yard perhaps).

You can have all those up at the same time, but there are many more alternatives for most of them, each with something to offer.

Here’s some guides that may be helpful

Get a Lumber Mill in your Garrison and cut tress as you encounter them. This will help you collect Garrison Resources quickly. When you are finished upgrading your Garrison and swim in Resources you can replace Lumber Mill with different building you like.

Woow, that’s so much information. This answers a lot of my questions, thanks!
I’m going to start working on them all
