Warmode on - no world PvP

I’m finding that I never encounter anyone of the opposite faction.

I play a full realm (Tarren Mill), which is traditionally a PvP realm so most on it enable warmode. I also play both horde & Ally so I know there is a healthy population of both. Yet when I am out and about in the world questing and leveling, I see lots of my own faction, yet never encounter anyone of the opposing faction.

I haven’t got shadowlands, so I typically hang out in BFA/WoD/MoP/Wrath expansion zones. But i can be leveling in zandalar on my horde, I will see hundreds of players out and about questing with war mode enabled, so I will decide to log on my Alliance and go there to world pvp. And even though I know the place should be filled, I can search around for hours and will never find anyone.

Is there some sort of known issue with the sharding feature? I’ve had an 8 year break from WoW so don’t fully understand the sharding feature but it seems like I am not seeing players that should be present.

Play on a horde or ally populated realm. Most of the time you’ll share shards with most populated realms of the opposing faction.

There are no realms in war mode.

Fair enough, as I explained I have taken a long break so perhaps I don’t fully understand how the new system works.

Either way are you able to explain why I’m not seeing any opposition? If it’s as you say and all realms are merged, there should easily be some opposition in the zones I’m in.

In War Mode, you are on a cross realm “shard”. There are multiple shards. A shard manager behind the scenes tries to balance the players per shard. But not easy considering all the factors.

Bottom line: when you relogged on your Alliance, you may or may not be on the same shard that your Horde was on.

There’s plenty complaints about sharding, but that’s what ya got
