Hello Blizzard World of Warcraft Team,
I would like to share a concept for a new Warrior specialization that I believe could introduce a completely new style of support gameplay to World of Warcraft.
The specialization is called Warlord.
The core idea is simple: the Warlord is not a traditional healer. He does not restore large amounts of health through magic. Instead, he keeps allies alive by reducing incoming damage, delaying wounds, increasing adrenaline, intercepting attacks, and preventing allies from falling during critical moments.
This concept builds naturally on the existing Warrior philosophy. Protection Warriors already survive through mitigation, blocking, Ignore Pain, defensive cooldowns, and endurance rather than heavy self-healing. The Warlord would extend that philosophy from personal survival to group survival.
Core Mechanics
Wounds
A percentage of incoming damage to nearby allies would be converted into delayed Wounds instead of immediately reducing their health. These Wounds would gradually become real damage unless the Warlord manages them.
Adrenaline
The Warlord would generate Adrenaline through combat, defensive actions, Intervene, blocking attacks, and Battle Cries. High Adrenaline would help allies resist Wounds, reduce incoming damage, and gain limited natural recovery while continuing to fight.
The specialization would therefore focus on preventing death rather than restoring health after damage has already occurred.
Signature Abilities
No Man Falls
For a short duration, nearby allies cannot fall from fatal damage. Instead, fatal damage is converted into Wounds.
This would create a very high-risk, high-reward playstyle. A skilled Warlord could allow the group to survive extremely dangerous moments, but if the Wounds are not controlled afterward, the entire group could collapse.
Over My Dead Body
The Warlord protects a selected ally and intercepts potentially fatal damage, taking the hit himself.
Hold the Line
A large portion of incoming party damage is temporarily converted into Wounds, giving the group additional time to survive a dangerous encounter.
Not Yet!
Instead of a magical resurrection, a recently defeated ally could briefly enter a Mortally Wounded state. The Warlord would have only a few seconds to reach that player and return them to combat with very low health and severe Wounds.
The Warrior would not resurrect the dead. He would prevent a critically wounded soldier from dying.
Lore Inspiration
The philosophy could be inspired by legendary Warriors such as Broxigar the Red, who continued fighting against impossible odds and even wounded Sargeras, and Varian Wrynn, whose final moments at the Broken Shore represented the Warrior ideal of placing himself between danger and his allies.
The Valarjar and Warrior Order Hall also provide a natural connection to the idea that exceptional Warriors can continue fighting beyond the normal physical limits of the body.
A group of Warriors could study these legendary examples and eventually discover that Rage is not only a source of offensive power. Through discipline, it could also be used to control pain, adrenaline, shock, and physical endurance.
This would lead to the creation of the Warlord discipline.
Gameplay Identity
The Warlord would not ask:
“Who needs healing?”
He would ask:
“Who is about to take damage, and how do I keep them standing?”
The specialization could create a completely different type of healer/support experience based on prediction, mitigation, positioning, timing, and risk management rather than traditional HPS.
Its philosophy could be summarized in one sentence:
The Warlord does not heal wounds. He keeps warriors fighting long enough to survive them.
Thank you for reading this concept. I have played World of Warcraft for many years, and I believe a specialization like this could offer a genuinely new gameplay experience while still feeling completely natural to the Warrior class.
Best regards,
Saeed
