Warrior or Monk?

I recently unlocked the Mag’Har orcs and I really want to make a character as close to a Blademaster as possible. Both warriors and monks are pretty close, and I don’t know which to choose.

Monks are a very unique class with many abilities I would like to try (e.g. Zen Pilgrimage and Transendence). The spec I have in mind is Brewmaster, and I do want to try tanking someday.

My main is a warrior, so it might be a little boring gaining and having the same abilities again, but it is a class I am confident with and mostly know how to handle.

Which should I choose?

Edit: Most of you suggested an arms warrior, as it is much closer to a Blademaster than the monk, so that’s the one I’m going with.

Monk is a fun class, though it’s strength varies by spec and patch. Sometimes they have 3 months being gods; other times they fall out of favour and are unwanted in pugs. Sometimes they are both at once.

The only reasons I’d discourage you:

  1. no 2h swords in any spec (nor maces, nor axes; monks are not a strength class)
  2. WW spec rarely swings its weapons at all

Which sort of blows up the ‘blademaster’ thing. Monks are fist fighters, high kickers, sometimes staff spinners, but definitely not ‘blade’ anythings.

Thanks for the advice!

Which is a pretty damn shame because real monks can do some pretty flashy stuff with swords in real life, if only they’ve copied a few of those moves unto the models so they’d change moves depending on weapon type.

As a BfA Monk main and an SL Warr main, aesthetically and in terms of fighting style your best option is probably Warrior, unfortunately. A two-handed Arms Warrior is I believe already the basis they use for in-game Blademasters, such as those Blademaster mobs in SoO.

But thematically monk fits their whole thing better, so it’s a huge shame that it doesn’t really work. I actually made an Orc Monk back in the SL Pre-patch to test if I could pull off a Blademaster-themed character, and it just didn’t work no matter what I tried, lack of swords aside, and that was only one of many issues with it.

About the second reason:
I was hoping Brewmasters would swing their weapons more than Windwalkers. It’s one of the reasons I wanted to play as one (the second being tanking)

i will say Monk they more fun to play they dont die so easly as warriors thz to their self heals …

They do - but it’s 2x 1h, or a staff or polearm. You still can’t have a 2h sword, mace or axe.

AFAIK, the blademaster archetype is all about 1 big sword, so probably arms warrior…

Not that I want to discourage you from playing monk! Monks are fun, but they may not have the visuals you want. There are some good polearm options now though.

Monks can use robes, bandanas and polearms. Probably a better blademaster class than warrior.

Here both monk and Warr are very diferent classes,
Monk WW has a weird passive, a negative passive if ask me, which gives lower dmg if u use the same ability 2 times in row, So u need to keep hiting diferent abilities,

Warrior is more straight forward, arms simple as u already know and fury a bit piano class, constant ability pressing, tho no weird passive like WW’s.

WW’s passive is the only reason i never like that much monk, BrM and MW is awesome for me and WW is but if want to play it correct to max dmg u need to learn how to master this weird passive…
