If I was after a damage dealer I would stick to Warrior, for one they have two damage specs not just one. And usally they are quite good aswell in both PvP/PVE.
Ret is the complete opposite for PvE damage they are usally middle of the pack or worse and for PvP they can have good burst but at the highest level other melees usally go before them one which usally is Warrior and Warrior is godlike in PvP this tier aswell.
For me Paladin is the choice because I’m primaly tanking and I don’t mind having both Ret/Holy to swap around its kinda my alts instead of having an alt. But If I had a pure goal like dps I wouldnt go Paladin. Ret is just boring most of the time and its never in a really good spot.

Warrior, for sure!
If you are aiming for being DPS warrior is better bet than Ret already, and it’s going to scale better like always. If Blizzard does no reworks for Ret it’s going to be on the bottom of DPS classes. Only specs worse than Ret in PVE have other specs that are way better, so they are probably underrepresented. It’s the worst high-parse DPS right now, and falls down with each week - because of outdated design that is just unfit to current state of the game.
Sad to say that because I mained Ret at the beginning of the expansion, but I wouldn’t advise to play it at this point. It’s good in PVP, but Ret is super unstable class. It’s always pretty much one good nerf from being OP to being unplayable trash.
You should pick warrior unless you want to tank, fury warrior is super fun and do good damage
