Warrior Rune Feedback

This feedback isn’t about damage numbers; warriors are fine, or even great, depending on the armor values that will be used going forward. This is about the enjoyment and interest levels of our runes. I’m a veteran warrior player with 19 years of experience, and I’m devastated by how the class plays now in SoD. I’m not opposed to changes—in fact, I welcome them. I’ve dreamed of a Classic+ version for at least 10 years. First off, I think you’ve added too many rune slots, leaving little room for meaningful choices. The runes really need to be rearranged, with damage in certain slots and utility in others, and defenses placed separately to allow for strategic selection.

Hands

  • Devastated: This one is actually fine, good job.

  • Endless Rage: Boring. Let’s remake it into something else.

  • Quick Strike: Fine.

  • Single Minded Fury: The movement speed part is fun. It could have helped dual wielding a bit more in the early game if it provided some hit rating instead of damage.

  • Victory Rush: Should be usable after all kills. Since it has a cooldown, it wouldn’t be overpowered, even when killing low-level enemies.

Chest

  • Blood Frenzy: Should have given Rend scaling damage based on weapon damage. Now, it’s just useless.

  • Flagellation: This is incredibly powerful but clunky to use, as it’s based on two different abilities meant for different purposes. It also doesn’t provide visual feedback. REMAKE THIS INTO AVATAR, active for 20 seconds after using Blood Rage, if it can’t be its own thing.

  • Raging Blow: Very limiting on when it can be used. A more useful Raging Blow would have a cooldown and only be usable when above, let’s say, 60 rage.

  • Warbringer: Way too good. Having all those mobility options without sharing cooldowns is too powerful, especially as it also breaks CC. Instead, make it shorten the cooldown of Charge to 8-10 seconds, allowing Charge to break CC and be used in combat and in any stance.

Legs

  • Consumed by Rage: This ability really makes you focus on the rage bar instead of the game, and juggling above and under 80 rage to keep the buff up is not fun at all. REMAKE THIS INTO BLADESTORM.

  • Frenzied Assault: It’s fine, but could it be more boring? It would be more fun if there was a 5% chance of getting an extra attack after an attack, like a mini Windfury.

  • Furious Thunder: It’s good to be able to use Thunder Clap in a defensive stance, but not good enough. REMAKE INTO SHOCKWAVE and make it usable in all stances.

Feet

  • Enraged Regeneration: Fine.

  • Gladiator Stance: This might be good for deep Protection Warriors who want to deal some damage, but we’re getting dual spec now, so it’s a bonus rune, whatever.

  • Intervene: Fine, but it could have been built into Charge. We don’t need more buttons to press.

  • Rallying Cry: Really good raid cooldown.

Waist

  • Blood Surge: Fine, nice to see Slam usable.

  • Focused Rage: Boring, remake. REMAKE TO IMPROVED REVENGE the one that hits 2 targets and deals lots of damage.

  • Precise Timing: Fine, nice to see Slam usable again.

Head

  • Shield Mastery: Not good enough. Let this make your Shield Slam scale with your total armor instead. That’s all deep Protection needs, and you know it.

  • Taste for Blood: Good if you have Tactical Mastery, otherwise it’s useless. REMAKE TO SUDDEN DEATH would be 10 times better, as Execute can be used in both Battle and Berserker stances.

  • Vigilance: It’s fine, but if it also transferred 20% of damage to the tank, it would be useful in PvP.

Wrist

  • Rampage: Fine.

  • Sword and Board: Fine, IF scaling issues on Shield Slam are fixed.

  • Wrecking Crew: Fine.

The runes obviously need to be rearranged. The new ones—Shockwave, Avatar, and Bladestorm—should all be in the same slot. Improved Revenge fits well with the Slam runes. Rallying Cry, Victory Rush, and Enraged Regeneration should obviously also share the same slot.

PS: About Commanding Shout

Come on, Blizzard! Other classes received quality of life improvements, but for warriors, it feels like we got the opposite. Please, either build Commanding Shout into Battle Shout or remove the rage cost of both Commanding and Battle Shouts. Alternatively, making their effects last longer would be a significant improvement.

Yee idk half of the phase 1 runes are dead and phase 2 / 3 runes are boring.

A rework is definitely in order but I doubt it will come.

Some great ideas but you fail to realize that Blizzard doesn’t care for Warriors. Even in Blizzcon that haha meme they put on was foreshadowing of the absolute distasteful and downright negligent treatment they gave Warriors in terms of design.
There’s a reason why we haven’t gotten a single “cool” rune.
Every class even if completely pathetic and underpowered has something cool that would make me want to re-roll to it if I wasn’t invested in my warrior.
I genuinely hope they find a suitable replacement to the dude who is in charge of creating the Warrior runes because this just ain’t it chief.

Do yourself a favor OP and don’t pretend to be an xped player, since some crap you post after that only makes you look even dumber.

First it’s Devastate not devastated, never was and still isn’t…

How about no! this rune was the reason a warr could get some kills in pvp in p1, other warrs were using quick strike and then crying on the forums they are getting farmed.

And about Quick strike… Fine you say? a rune that had it’s place in a pve spec and everyone who got baited to use it in pvp only regretted. That’s fine to you? Shows your 19 years of xp…

Single minded fury - more dmg and bonus movement speed, but hey to you it’s just fun and just the movement speed, smh…

Flagellation - what is there so clunky about it? you can chain bloodrage and zerker rage for a whopping 25% dmg bonus, no other class can do that.

Yet the only class who has to wait until lvl 36 to be able to press an instant dmg ability as melee, or you manage 80 rage to be able to use raging blow more frequently or you sit in def stance and use devastate rune. That’s not clunky, right? Nope?

War bringer - the only reason a warr can keep up in the actual pvp setting

Raging blow to be usable above 60 rage? you can just delete it, as it is now no1 is using it anyway. Instead you could ask for Consumed by rage to activate at 30 rage so both runes are viable, but no, you want rework into bladestorm or use from 60 rage, shows how much insight you have after 19 years.

Frenzied assault - 20% attack speed on 2h just fine?! When did you ever had somehting like this in classic? There were trinkets later on giving you some haste and still it didn’t come close to permanent 20%! smh…

Furious thunder works as it is, yet you want shockwave? more op crap

Gladiator stance enables at least 4-5 different combos for the 3 talent trees while using 1h+shield…

Focused rage is boring for you, again boring? meanwhile you can bring the cost of some abilities with it so low you’ll be spamming them.

Shield slam scale with armor? no, that’s not what prot needs and you have no clue. Look at the datamined items, you get around 100 block values and you get sword and board rune.

You can spec both improved overpower and tactical mastery at 60 which make taste of blood rune attractive for both arms and fury (and also for glad stance) with the synergy with wrecking crew. What’s there not to like about this rune?

Vigilance to transfer 20% of dmg(TWENTY PERCENT?!) are you insane?! smh…

Play the game offered to you. There is always room for improvements and tweaks but stuff you’re asking is just off the rails esp. coming from a veteran as you described yourself.

Always bored and never bothering to play to class to it’s strengths.

I play warr with tbc, and more or less agree with the OP, and you’re talking rubbish.

You’re just crazy moonchicken, not a warrior and never played especially in sod, play role punching bag, then write.

You probably like to stand on STV near altar and farm warrbags, you’ve been figured out …

Please visit the nearest hospital or mental institution and show them this book which you wrote on the forums they will know how to treat you, Althou your chances of recovering from the brain damage are low there is still hope for you.

What a complete nonsense suggestions. This feels written by someone who quit SOD and hates warriors as mutch as the dev who actually made the runes for warriors and just want to see the class in a gutter. Cant make this stuff up convinced its a troll post

Some changes to your post

  • Quick Strike: Will never be used in any scenario lvl 30
  • Victory Rush: Will never be used in any scenario beyond lvl 20
  • Raging Blow: Will never be used after nerf
  • Warbringer: Now i can die in pvp while charging instead of while standing 30 yards away, big deal
  • Consumed by Rage: Will never be used after nerf
  • Furious Thunder: Only path to aoe aggro while paradoxically doing very little threat
  • Enraged Regeneration: Heals so slow that the only use is when solo pve
  • Intervene: No sane person will ever use this
  • Gladiator Stance: What a complete and utter meme
  • Rallying Cry: Such a low impact it never makes sense to use
  • Focused Rage: Practically useless
  • Shield Mastery: Giving 60% increased threat would be way more useful than 10% more damage on your tank, rune slot shared with Vigilance??
  • Taste for Blood: Not good enough to make arms viable at high levels
  • Vigilance: Not impactful at all and with such low percentages who will use it?
  • Rampage: Not surprised if this addition of 10% will follow something like Flagellation being nerfed with 10%, just like phase 1 → 2 where Consumed By Rage was nerfed into oblivion
  • Sword and Board: Woho i will be able to hit someone for like 300 damage flat every 8 or so seconds at lvl 50, what a difference from devastate that does 200 damage at lvl 40
  • Wrecking Crew: 10% bonus crit damage? so normal is 100%, crit is 200%, and crit with this is 210%? worthless to the extreme

So many runes are made for use at lower levels which eventually get replaced by vanilla abilities.
The other runes are either small bonus damage or lackluster tank abilities…

Where is the class fantasy? Where is the fun?

Well, at least Sudden Death is now in the game files, so I’m happy!

And for the serious replies I received, much love :heart:. Life is hard on the forums, and Blizzard wanted feedback, so here I am, doing my best to provide that.

I mean, damage numbers are easily fixed; it’s just a matter of adjusting some knobs, but that’s not the problem—and it has never been the problem—for warriors in SoD.

The problem is the FUN factor. Super good passives are not fun; they’re just good.

And for those who think my suggestions are outrageous, well, you have to put them in the context of SoD. Look at the other classes and see what spells they get. I would personally prefer a more tuned-down Classic+ with just small tweaks and new content, but Blizzard went for this “give them all” approach (probably in response to SoM, which was great, by the way). So, here we are. Just give warriors those epic runes. Why not? We have tanking warlocks and stuff—the world is crazy.

Ya’ll aren’t ready for Glad Stance to pop off, please continue to complain so Blizz will buff it even more.
Glad Warriors number 1 DPS P3 mark my words.

I know that could be true; very few warriors want to play that way. We had that in WoD, and people didn’t like it. DPS players don’t want to play with a shield, and tanks don’t want to give them away. So adding them now seems odd to me unless it’s just something for PvP.

But if we got Improved Revenge and Titan’s Grip in the future, then we’re talking. Then I would be ready for Heroic dungeons, just cleaving away and looking like a Crusader from Diablo 3. Oddly enough, I would approve of that.

75% bonus damage + 10% AP + Reck = literally god level

I’m sure that 10% damage and 30% less armor will really make a world of difference.
Surely it will make up for not having an offhand or 2h by… by… wait how?

Oh but shield block will do 300 damage? That won’t do any difference.

If any warrior makes it up to top 3 dps it will be as fury with DW and the fist weapons.

First of: they now buffed shield slam

Second: why does everyone assume that it has to be played with deep prot talents? I dont see a " cant put talent into fury or arms" restriction ever thought about that.

And third: sims altough not entirely accurat already show glad on par with dw fury (not my source and not my sims so take this wit a grain of salt)

Uh by hoj you mean hand of justice right? Doesnt that have lvl 53 equip restriction or are you talking about lvl 60
